Editor bids farewell

The Editor of the Sligo Champion Jenny McCudden is leaving the role after seven years.

Jenny was the first female editor of the paper in its 183-year history.

During her tenure as editor she led the editorial team during the transition to a new production system and the continuing development of the compact format of the paper.

Reflecting on her time as Editor, Jenny said that one of the highlights was the work she did on a series about mental health services for children and young adults in the region.

'This helped to lead to the appointment of a second consultant psychiatrist for Children and Adolescent Child and Mental Health Services in the North West of which I am very proud.'

'I believe I brought a creative touch to the paper, personalising stories, introducing a fashion file, features such as tourist trails and increasing photo coverage of local people highlighting individual achievements, their endeavours, talents and hard work.'

She said: 'I can reflect with pride as many of the goals I set myself as editor were realised. Looking back, I am happy at all that I achieved during my tenure as editor.'

Michael Ryan, Managing Director of INM Regionals, publishers of the Sligo Champion, said he would like to thank Jenny for her contribution to the paper during her tenure as editor and wish her well in the future.
