Deal almost done on Shane's house
Former Westlife member Shane Filan's mansion at Carraroe may soon be sold.
The Sligo Champion understands a high-profile buyer from overseas is interested in the property.
Sources told the 'Champion' the sale price was agreed at just over €800,000.
However, it's a knock-down price.
It's thought to have cost Filan €3m in 2004 to build the property.
The sprawling mansion includes landscaped gardens, a pond and stream.
It also has a cinema room, playroom and snooker room, as well as a gym area and studio room in a separate garage block.
It's reputed that at the height of the boom, Filan was offered €10m for the property.
The house is being sold by a receiver as part of the effort to clear his debts of about €23m.
It originally went on the market with an asking price of almost €1m.
It was put up for sale following a creditors meeting under UK insolvency rules held in Dublin.
Much of the debt arose from property investments during the boom.
Sligo auctioneer David Reynolds, of Gunne Reynolds, declined to give any detail of who was now interested in the proeprty.
Mr Reynolds said: "We had good interest in it and there were a couple of bidders."
Shane, his wife Gillian and their three children now live in Surrey, England, where he declared bankrupt.
Since the break-up of Westlife, he has embarked on a successful solo career.
He launched an album entitled "You and Me" and is currently on tour.
