Ballymote cemetery vandalised as graffiti sprayed on headstones
Headstones and grave markers, some of which are over 150 years old, were vandalised in a Ballymote cemetery last week.
Graffiti was sprayed on a number of headstones and grave markers in Ballymote's Abbey Cemetery.
Councillor Keith Henry slammed what he described as 'a sad act' and urged anyone with information to pass it on.
"This is a sad act and anyone with information should pass it on. I've forwarded the details to the Council but I'd ask that everyone and parents especially keep an eye out to prevent future damage." In a statement, Sligo County Council say assistance will be given to the local community to help clean up the damage.
"Sligo County Council has been notified of the damage caused in Ballymote Graveyard, and will assist the local community in carrying out the necessary works."
