Appeal issued for volunteers to help keep Dolly's Cottage open
Organisers of a public meeting in Strandhill tonight hope it can lead to the securing of the future of Dolly's Cottage in Strandhill.
The cottage, dating from the early 1800s, is operated as a tourism attraction from April to October each year by volunteers of the local ICA Guild. It is run as a small museum and craft shop and relies wholly on donations it receives from visitors.
The number of volunteers have reduced considerably and some who have given most of their lives to helping keep Dolly's open are now at a juncture where they want to step away and let others take up the baton.
There is a danger of the long running museum will cease operations in September if new volunteers do not come on board.
