A 77-year-old Sligoman has appeared on an Interpol wanted list for allegedly dealing in the export of military equipment to Iran.

Thomas McGuinn is a director of Mac Aviation which is registered at the family home in Cloonmull, Drumcliffe.

He is accused in a US indictment of conspiracy to defraud the Government there, illegal export of goods without a licence and making false statements.

A picture of McGuinn has appeared on the Interpol website saying he is wanted by the judicial authorities in the US for prosecution.

Efforts by the Sligo Champion to contact McGuinn this week were unsuccessful.

Telephone numbers for Mac Aviation, which has been operating since April 1993, were not being answered.

Up to the past couple of weeks McGuinn was seen around Sligo.

It is believed dozens of people have been charged with illegally exporting military parts to Iran since the US brought in sanctions in 2007.

Iran depends on supplies to maintain its American made 1970s military aircraft.

McGuinn was previously arrested indicted in 1994 on charges of conspiracy and attempting to supply night vision goggles to Iran.

He pleaded guilty in Miami to an export violation two years later and was sentenced to time served which was three months.

McGuinn reached a €4 million settlement with CAB in August 2010.
