1916 plaque to be erected at folk park
A 1916 memorial plaque will be unveiled in the Sligo Folk Park, Riverstown on Sunday the 10th of September at 1pm.
The Event is being organised by C Coy of the 19th Inf Bn FCA Association.
A huge number of people would have served in C Coy, which was based in Sligo since its formation in 1959 until it was replaced in 2005 by the Reserve Defence Forces.
"We look forward to meeting former members of the Unit and the general public on the day," said Pearse Brady.
The plaque itself is set on a pillar which pre-dates the 1916 Rising by a significant length of time.
This majestic piece of stone is estimated to have stood in the countryside for at least 150 years.
"We would like to think that into the future the monument will provide a focal point for former members of the Unit to gather, to chat and remember," added Pearse.
"We are looking forward to a good turnout on the day."
