Works begin on tackling flooding in Rathbraughan
Sligo County Council has received approval from the OPW to proceed with proposed investigative works for Rathbraghan to address flooding in the area in the short term.
The Works that will be carried in the coming weeks will include the clearing of the stream to rear of disused warehouses close to N15; survey ing and unblocking of 550m of piped culvert from Abbvie lands through HSE lands down to open stream behind disused warehouses; clearing overgrown area to rear of Mowlam Nursing Home and The Woodlands Estate; the installation of two manholes along uncovered surface water culverts and the installing of a small bund of earth to rear of Woodlands Estate houses as needed.
The nominated contractor Mullanes will spend approximately two days clearing the blocked/clogged stream before moving on to H.S.E.
Wimseys will then follow on after this work is completed to survey all exposed pipework in this whole area, check for blockages and clear what obstructions they can. All work should be done by the end of the month.
These works will assist in informing the design of the larger scheme proposed but we would also anticipate that these works will in the short term assist in mitigating any potential flooding events.
The works have been welcomed by councillors Marie Casserly and Thomas Healy.
