Teeling Street is to undergo repair works
Teeling Street Ballymote is due to have upgrades carried out in 2018, it has been confirmed.
It follows representations by Ballymote Fianna Fáil Councillor Keith Henry.
Cllr Henry also formally raised the matter at the January meeting of Sligo County Council.
Cllr Henry said "Teeling Street was one of the most prominent streets in the town for years.
"It was the home to pubs, several shops and even a Court House in the past. It is still home to a number of vibrant businesses that bring people to the town to do business.
"However it is in need of some footpath repairs and proper parking arrangements".
Cllr. Henry also says repairs are needed in front of the courthouse.
"Over the past few months I've been in discussions with the local engineer about the overall appearance and layout of the street from the Council's perspective, and I am requesting that repairs and the lining of the square in front of the court house be carried out" he added.
In response to Cllr Henry's motion Director of Services Tom Kilfeather said that footpath repairs would be carried out in 2018 as would the lining out of the square area.
Cllr Henry, who is also Vice Chairman of the County Council thanked the engineering staff for working on the matter.
Since the meeting he has said "the local businesses and residents are happy to hear that the much needed works will be carried out and I look forward to working with the Council on the delivery of it.
"If we can make small improvements street by street it will add to the character of the town and it's something I plan to keep fighting for".
