Ruth honoured for her youth voluntary work with award

An outstanding Sligo youth volunteer has been honoured for their voluntary work at the 2019 Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards, the only All-Ireland youth initiative of its kind.

Ruth Conlon Oates, a student from Mercy College in Sligo has been selected and honoured from hundreds of young volunteers from across the country and recognised for the initiative, effort and impact demonstrated during their volunteer service.

Ruth was honoured at the Pramerica Spirit of Community awards ceremony, which was held at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Ruth was presented with a silver medallion and €500 for a charity of their choice.

Ruth has volunteered her time across a myriad of projects in her community including teaching self-defence and kick boxing to 4 to 10-year-old children and coaching first-year football after school. Ruth also volunteers with St Vincent De Paul and the North West Simon Community in Sligo.

The awards recognise and rewards post-primary/secondary-level students for volunteer work carried out in their communities Each year 20 finalists are chosen to attend the awards and two are named All-Ireland Youth Volunteers of the Year.
