WAREHOUSE ART Renowned Irish artist Michael Wann and Mayor of Sligo David Cawley will officially open the first-ever student art exhibition at The Warehouse, Connolly Street on Friday December 21st at 6pm. The exhibition is called Flux and the idea behind it is to celebrate the work of young, developing artists. It will feature a variety of different mediums including painting, video and photography. The exhibition will run from December 17th to January 5th (closed 24-28 December). 2

PANTO FEVER Coolera Dramatic Society's 34th annual pantomime, Dick Whittington and his Cat, continues at the Hawk's Well Theatre until Saturday, December 22nd. Directed by Bobby Jones, this latest production has proven once more to be a major hit with adults and children. Longstanding characters from the Dramatic Society including Bobby himself who plays King Rat, Brian Devaney who plays Sarah Fitzwarren and Dan Scannell who plays the Empress of Morocco make it an unforgettable evening. Dylan Doherty, who has been participating in panto since he was in 4th class in Ransboro NS, performs the lead role of Dick Whittington. 3

CAROL SERVICE The magnificent surroundings of Sligo Cathedral provide the setting for the annual Carol Service on Sunday, December 23rd. Under Musical Director Charles O'Connor the service will start at 8.15pm. This is always a very popular event and for many marks the beginning of Christmas. 4

CHRISTMAS MOVIE SPECIAL 'Elf' is a special festive movie showing at The Model on Friday, December 21st. Will Ferrell stars as the oversized Elf, Buddy, who goes to New York to discover his true identity. This is a very funny and heart-warming Christmas movie that appeals to both children and adults alike. A special family ticket for two adults and two children is available at €15. 5

CHRISTMAS JOY A Celebration of Christmas Joy takes place at Sligo Presbyterian Church on Thursday, December 20th at 7.30pm. It features James Kilbane, the Sligo Gospel Choir and the Flute Ensemble of the Sligo Academy of Music. Contributions will be taken in support of the Friends of Sligo General Hospital. Refreshments will follow in the refurbished Church hall. 6

DANGER IN THE MANGER Nativity 2: 'Danger in the Manger' is showing at the Gaiety Cinema until Thursday, December 20th. It's double trouble as rookie teacher Mr. Peterson (David Tennant) takes his underachieving primary school to the 'Song For Christmas' competition and goes head-to-head with his identical twin brother's posh private school choir. Embarking on an ill-judged road trip to reach the contest, they soon find that getting to Christmas Castle and the Festive sing-off is harder than they think. 7

LAST CALL FOR SANTA Saturday is the last opportunity for the little ones to visit Santa town in Riverstown. This is always a popular event and the show takes place at 2.00pm and 4.00pm. The admission of €15 includes a gift. Pre-booking is advised on 071-9167013. 8

SLIGO SOPRANO International Sligo Soprano Edel Shannon returns to her home town for her first solo recital since she left over 10 years ago to study opera and classical singing abroad. She will perform a delightful selection of songs, arias and airs in a lunchtime concert at The Model on Saturday at 1pm. Admission is €10. Edel has worked as an international soloist with companies such as Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Savannah Philharmonic Opera and has also taken to the stage at the National Concert Hall, the RDS, and Dublin Castle. 9

CHRISTMAS RUN/WALK For those who fancy a bit of exercise before the Festivities, a Christmas 5k Run/Walk takes place on Sunday morning. Registration is at the Best Western Sligo Southern Hotel from 9.30am. The event begins at 11.00am and starts and finishes at The Southern. Entry fee is €10 and there are numerous spot prizes. The concert takes place on Thursday with 'curtain up' at 8.00pm
