A rise in the water level at Lough Gill due to heavy rainfall has contributed to flooding in a number of areas in Sligo.

Cleveragh, Ash Lane, Duck Street and the junction at the bottom of the First Sea Road were the areas with which Cllr Arthur Gibbons expressed concern at last week's meeting of the Borough District of Sligo.

Cllr Gibbons said it was becoming a regular issue and requested an update.

In response, Director of Services Tom Kilfeather said that investigation works were ongoing, and there were some environmental constraints. However, the rise in the water level at Lough Gill appears to have affected Cleveragh, while there were also problems with Copper River. Water levels will continue to be monitored, he concluded.

The report was 'very welcome' Cllr Gibbons told the meeting, and he hopes the situation is resolved soon.
