Card game in Ballintogher

There will be a progressive 25 card game in Ballintogher Community Hall on Good Friday 18th April at 8pm sharp. There will be lots of spot prizes including cash prizes. Refreshments will be serve. All cards players are welcome. This is in aid of the Ballintogher Community Playground Ballintogher.

The Sacrament of Confirmation was held in the Church of the Assumption, Collooney on Sunday 30th March and was celebrated by Bishop Brendan Kelly, Bishop of Achonry together with Fr. Pat Peyton P.P. and Canon James Finan C.C. Congratulations to the students, their parents and teachers.

Mass of the Lord's Supper will be held on Holy Thursday evening in The Church of St. Fechin and St. Lassara, Ballinacarrow at 6.30 p.m. and in the Church of the Assumption, Collooney at 8 p.m. The Celebration of the Lord's Passion will be held in the Church of the Assumption, Collooney at 3 p.m. on Good Friday while the Stations of the Cross will be held at 7 p.m. in the Church of St. Fechin and St. Lassara, Ballinacarrow. Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night will be held at 9 p.m. in the Church of the Assumption, Collooney. Mass will be held at 6 a.m. in Creevela Abbey, Dromahair, Co. Leitrim on Easter Sunday morning and all those who would like to join Fr. Vincent Connaughton P.P. and members of the parish of Killenummery and Killery are welcome to this special celebration.

Beltra Country Market are holding their Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Bonnet Competition on Saturday 19th April from 10 until 12 noon. All are very welcome. Deepest sympathy is extended to the wife, Julia and family of Michael Finn, Knockbeg whose funeral took place recently. May he rest in peace.

Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAA Club in association with Patricia Henry Scoil Rince Nic Einri is running a celebrity jigs and reels event which will take place on Easter Sunday April 20th in the Sligo Park Hotel. Good luck to the twelve couples involved who will strut their stuff in aid of Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAA Club Development Fund.


The countdown is on to Sligo`s biggest charity gig of the year. This year's Rock n the Green will take place on Saturday 31st May and Sunday 1st June.

Last year €30,295 was raised for both The North West Hospice and Cystic Fibrosis Ireland Both charities will once again be the beneficiaries from this two day event. Congratulations to U-16 girls who got off to a winning start recently when they defeated Calry/St. Joseph's on a scoreline of 5-5 to 2 -12 in Connolly Park, Collooney in their first league game. Training continues on Fridays at 8 p.m. and Mondays at 6 p.m. in the Training pitch.

Congratulations also to the U-16's Boys who defeated Eastern Harps in Keash on a scoreline of 8-9 to 0-9. A speedy recovery is extended to Man of the Match, Gary Anderson who sustained an injury at the end of the game.

Dromahair Development Association/ Tidy Towns are having a Litter Pick on Good Friday 18th April from 11a.m. - 1p.m. Meeting at The Depot. Everyone welcome. Please come along if you can spare a few hours to help keep our village looking lovely.

Community Games girls U'12 football commencing Monday evenings from 6 to 7 at St. Clare's Primary School Astro pitch, Manorhamilton. Girls who are 12 after 31st July 2014 are eligible for registration. Registration will be taken on the evening. Copy of birth cert and photos for girls not already registered from last year required. Gumshields required for training. Fee €3 per training session.

The Leckaun N.S First Holy Communion will take place on Saturday the 7th of June 2014 at 11.30am in Church of Mary, Mother of God, in Newtownmanor. The students making Communion are Charlie Conlon, Donal O Connallain, Haydn Mc Donald, Tess Longworth, Amelie McGrath, Aoife Toner, Alanna Dunleavy and Elle Mc Morrow.

Well done to the mixed and the girls Leckaun N.S teams who both won their match's last week, with the mixed team defeating the Gaelscoil Manorhamilton and the girls' team defeating Advarney N.S. There are some great footballers coming up through the age groups. Best of luck in your next matches and keep up the good work.

Shamrock Gaels Bord na nÓg are holding a 7K fun walk/run on Easter Monday, April 21 at 1pm in Coola. This route was thoroughly enjoyed last year by all from walkers to runners young and old alike. Registration will be taken on the day from 12 midday and entry is €10. We hope to see you all there and refreshments will be served in the club grounds after the walk/run.


Riverstown Community Park will host the annual friendly soccer game on Saturday, April 26 from 4pm onwards. The teams will be made up of the three astro turf teams which play weekly in Riverstown Park. This year's event will contribute to the upkeep of the Community Park and there will be a bucket collection on the day for anybody that would like to contribute. Refreshments will be served afterwards in John McDermotts' pub. Please come out and support what will be a fun event.


Community Games Skittles and Rounders training for U12 and U14 boys and girls will take place on Wednesday evening at 6.30pm in Riverstown Community Park. Community Games Swimming will take place in the Sligo Sport Complex on Saturday, May 10 at 1pm. Swimmers should be poolside 5 minutes before competition starts. Athletic Finals will take place in the Community Park on Sunday, May 18 at 2pm.


The young traditional music group 'Iontas' from Coola Post Primary School, Riverstown, County Sligo, under the leadership of Michael Rooney are the Siansa Gael Linn 2014 winners! Áine Hensey, popular presenter with RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, compered the show which was broadcast live by the station on the night from the National Concert Hall, Dublin.

There was great rejoicing among their supporters when it was announced that 'Iontas' were the victors! There are 8 young musicians in the group: Tomás Ó Gabháin, Shauna Ní Chuilinn, Conal Mac Cormaic, Colm Ó Tuathaigh, Síofra Ní Áinle, Dúlra Ní Áinle, Orlaith Ní Chionnaith and Stiofán Ó Maolagáin.

A special programme featuring highlights from the event will be broadcast on TG4 on Wednesday, April 23 at 9.30pm.


Taunagh NS Parents' Association would like to thank everyone who donated and purchased toys at their Toy Swap event held last month.

Thank you also to those who came along on the day to enjoy the pop up café and to the children who enjoyed decorating gingerbread. The event was a great success.

As part of 'Cara's Dream to Walk' there will be a fundraising Tractor Ride in Riverstown on May 5 at 2pm. Entry is €20 per tractor. There will be a raffle, kids entertainment and light refreshments.


The Man In The Woman's Shoes is coming to Riverstown Community Hall on Saturday, May 3 at 9pm. A terrific play, written and directed by the hugely talented Mikel Murfis - funny, sad, moving, memorable. Please don't miss this opportunity to see this fantastic play. Tickets only €10.
