Artists donate paintings for charity
Works of art by painters from all over Sligo went on sale in Grange last week in a bid to raise over €3,000 for charity.
Grange art teacher Eamonn Dowdican's annual exhibition raises thousands for Sligo Cancer Support Centre on Wine Street, Sligo.
"We had 146 paintings exhibited here this year," Eamonn told The Sligo Champion.
"I wanted to raise the standard this year so there are 'not for sale' paintings being exhibited this year as well as paintings people are happy to sell for charity," he said.
Amateur artists from Ballyshannon to Drumshanbo and Ballinamore to Easkey attend his classes every week and have donated their paintings to the cause.
"We had all free styles - still life, landscape, seascapes, graphic design, fine art and Van Gogh studies," said Eamonn.
"The feedback has been really good. We had a lot of people come in towards the end of the week as word of mouth got around," he said.
"We raised €3,285 for Sligo Cancer Support Centre last year so we'd hope to beat that this year," he added.
