Solar power

Manorhamilton Library is putting on excellent free workshops next month that will enable all young people interested in participating to investigate solar power and how to develop solar technology.

The Manor Library’s promotion, which will take place over three days in two-hour sessions each day, is being run to honour Ireland’s annual youth creativity abilities potential event, which is known as Cruinniú na nÓg 2022 and which takes place on Saturday, June 11.

According to its promoters, the Cruinniú na nÓg 2022 event was launched on Wednesday, May 4, at Killruddery House and Gardens, Co. Wicklow by TD Catherine Martin, Minister for Tourism, Culture, arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media who announced all the exciting details of Cruinniú na nÓg 2022, a one-of-a-kind day of free creative activity for young people.

Meanwhile Manor Librarian, Martina Feeney is inviting all interested to “join us in Manorhamilton Library for a workshop series to celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg 2022.

Running for two hours per day over three days, we will be exploring solar power and solar technology to build some working models and vehicles using recycled materials, laser cut kits and 3D printed parts. No experience necessary and all materials will be provided.”

Boxing Winners

The Seán McDermott Boxing Club contingent, who travelled to Dungloe on Friday night for the Jim McCole Dungloe Boxing Club Fundraising Tournament, enjoyed a most successful outing at the Donegal venue where four of the Manorhamilton fighters claimed victories in their bouts. Justin Kelly, Jason Clancy, Josh McDonagh and Cathal Myres won their fights for the Seán McDermott Boxing Club in Dungloe.

Meanwhile, the Manor Club’s, Mickey Ward was unlucky to lose narrowly to the impressive Rory McDaid, from the Illies Golden Gloves BC, Buncrana in his Tournament fight after Ward put up a good all-round performance.

There was a big crowd at the Jim McCole Dungloe Boxing Club Fundraising Tournament. Complimenting the Dungloe Boxing Club on its organisation of the event and extending good wishes to Jim McCole,

Seán McDermott Boxing Club Coach, James Kelly said “thank you to John Elliott for the invite.”

James also added: “it was great to see the massive crowed in attendance for such a worthy cause.”

Pendant Alarms

Merville Community Centre facilitate on behalf of our community the provision to eligible persons of Social Monitored Pendant Alarms, under the Seniors Alert Scheme that is administered by Pobal.

Equipment Funding is available for eligible persons over 65 years for the installation of an monitored alarm on a landline in the person’s home.

The alarms are now available for persons aged 65 or older and living alone, living with another person who meets the terms and conditions, living alone for significant periods of time during the day, or is a carer to someone else in their household.

First year monitoring is now free for all new applicants. Subsequent annual monitoring charges are then payable by the user.

Work Experience Opportunity

Community Employment is a great option for those on a lower social welfare rate as it involves rising of payment on to the increased CE rate, while providing work experience/training for 19.5 hours a week.

If you have been in receipt of DEASP Payment of any amount, however small, for the last 12 months, you could be eligible to join our Community Employment (CE) programme.

Community Employment vacancies are currently available for School Age Care (Afternoons) and Kitchen Assistant (Afternoons).

Leckaun NS parents’ association are running a Used Clothes Collection.

Items accepted include clothes, curtains, towels, blankets, bed linen, pairs of shoes, hats, scarves, handbags and belts.

Public Area Enhancements

Sligo County Council have appointed consultants to develop public realm enhancements to bring significant regeneration to the town of Tubbercurry.

You are invited to view early concept displays at a public exhibition from Thursday, May 26, Wednesday, June 6, at Teach Laighne/Library.

The design team will attend between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 26 and 27. Please come along to review and share your opinions.

Tubbercurry/Cloonacool Community Games

Tubbercurry/Cloonacool Community Games is back, after a gap of two years.

A new committee needs to be formed if parents wish Tubbercurry/Cloonacool children to enter in the Community Games this year.

Without volunteers willing to volunteer, the area will no longer be able to participate in the running, swimming/Art, football, soccer etc.

If you wish to get involved or organise a new committee, please contact Enda O’Brien at 087 6824388 and he will be happy to provide the details.

The files can be forwarded to an interested group of volunteers who wish to take on the organising duties.

Active retirement group

The local Active Retirement Group have now planned their activities for May including an outing to Castlebar for Ten-Pin Bowling, a Bealtaine Celebration, a film in the Coleman Music Centre, a Business Meeting and bingo.

The usual exercises of Curling on Mondays and yoga on Thursdays in Teach Laighne will continue, as will the coffee and Comhrá hour on Wednesdays.

New members are always welcome at any of our activities.

There are just two seats available for our July Holiday.

Outreach clinic

The National Charity for Deafness and Hearing Loss hold an Outreach Clinic in Tubbercurry on the third Wednesday of each month in Tubbercurry Library from 10 a.m. 1 p.m.

This is a free and confidential service on all aspects of deafness and hearing loss in children and adults.

Advice and information on hearing loss; Assistive Technology for those with a hearing loss; Hearing aid care and Maintenance; Minor Heaing Aid Repairs and Hearing Aid Batteries (€2 per card).

We welcome all those who want to get out for a social cuppa, those who want to find out about the campaign and how to use it, those who need a listening ear or are feeling lonely or isolated and those who want to find out about supports available in the community.

Mid-Day Walkers meet every Tuesday at Tubbercurry FRC at midday for a social walk followed by a cuppa. New walkers always welcome.

Tubbercurry Men’s Shed

Tubbercurry Men’s Shed at Banada Abbey will host a men’s health and gardening course starting Wednesday, May 25, from 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. for four weeks.

The Gardening Course is kindly supported by Connecting For Life Sligo Leitrim.

Tubbercurry Men’s Shed is currently working on projects for Tidytown’s initiatives.

Other current Men’s Shed activities include art classes, Making Flower Boxes and the group is being joined by various guest speakers.

The group is also planning a trip to Mayo Abbey, a Bee Keeping Course and much more.

Welding and Fabrication Traineeship

A Welding and Fabrication Traineeship will be held in MSLETB Training Centre Ballina to potential candidates wishing to develop skills in MMA, MIG and TIG welding, metal cutting and forming using thermal processes and related machine tools, as well as personal effectiveness and job seeking skills to enable you to obtain employment in the Welding and Fabrication sector.

This training will take place on a full-time basis over 27 weeks.
