Stokane National School

We have commenced our Cycle Safety Training course supported by Cycle Right and Cycling Ireland. It is a four-week course, the first week was theory based where the pupils learned the importance of road safety and practiced hand signals. Last week there was great excitement as they brought their bikes and helmets into school so they could start to put theory into practice. They practised cycling as a group, careful braking and to be aware of cyclists around them. They practiced cycling one- handed so they can perform hand signals safely when out on the road and learned the importance of looking very carefully before turning. “If you can’t see, don’t go!” was highlighted as the Number One rule.

We have two more weeks of cycle training to go and are hoping to have everybody confident with cycling on the road by the time the course is finished.

Our thanks go to Simon the instructor and to the parents and guardians who kindly transported all the bikes to and from school. clear out in mind as we will be organising another *cash for clobber* fundraiser in
