Parish Meeting

A Parish Meeting will be held to organise a farewell party for Fr Fagan and Fr Sexton in the Depot on Wednesday, August 7, at 8 p.m.

Best Kept Garden/Best Kept Estate

Our annual Best Kept garden and Best Kept estate competition is taking place again this year so now is the time to get weeding and feeding. To enter your garden contact us any morning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or call into the office. Judging will take place mid-August. Contact details at the end of the notes.

Wild Child Day

Dromahair Anglers and DDA/Tidy Towns present 'Wild Child Day' under 'Waters and Communities' We are encouraging families to take timeout from technology and get out doors, its Wild Child Day on Wednesday, August 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Community Park, Dromahair.

Learn new fishing skills, fly tying and fishing competition, make seed bombs and other activities e.g what creatures are living in our river? We will have visiting facilitators. There will be a Bar b q with tasty treats and a marquee in case of a light shower. Young and old are welcome to join us learn a bit more about the greatest treasure we have 'The River Bonet'.

Tenders sought

The Ballaghameehan and Kiltyclogher Parish Finance Committee in Rossinver, Co. Leitrim will be putting the paths to the left hand side of the new graveyard and other ancillary works out to tender in early August. Should you wish to price for the supply and installation of these works please register your interest via email to rossinver@kilmorediocese.ie or contact the parish priest, Fr Patrick Farrelly for further details. The Ballaghameehan and Kiltyclogher Parish Finance Committee are applying for grants for these works so if you are interested please insure you have the required insurances and tax clearance to undertake same.

The Depot

Garda Community Information Clinic in the Depot Dromahair every Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. General Garda Services and Information is provided. This is a pilot scheme and its success depend on the support of the public. Use it or lose it.

The Depot Office on Backline, Dromahair is open to the public Monday to Friday mornings from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Close at 1 p.m. on Fridays. We offer a full range of office services. Photocopying, typing, printing, laminating, binding and internet access. All services available at very reasonable rates.

Manorhamilton

Walk, Run or Stroll

Starting at 3 p.m., the very popular annual North West STOP 5km/10km walk, run or stroll takes place from Manorhamilton Castle on this Sunday, August 11.

Everyone is invited to participate and support the work of North West STOP who values and care for each person who seeks its services.

Regarding Sunday's 5/10km event North West STOP says 'whether you're challenging yourself to beat your best time, or bringing the kids out for a scenic stroll - we invite you join us on August 11 at 3 p.m. from the castle in Manorhamilton for what will be a wonderful afternoon.

'You can choose between a five or 10km route, and bring some friends and family to come along and join you; refreshments will be served afterwards' for all participating.

Further Education Courses

A number of free full-time Adult Education courses will start this September in the Further Education Centre, which is located in the Enterprise Centre on the Hilly Road, Drumshanbo.

The Drumshanbo Further Education and Training Centre will be offering the following courses - QQI Level 5 Business and IT, Tourism with Business, Traditional Irish Music, Food Science and also Adobe Applications.

Lurganboy Defibrillator

A public meeting for all Lurganboy residents will be held in the Lurganboy Church of Ireland Chapel of Ease on Monday night, August 12, at 7.30 p.m. to discuss purchasing a defibrillator for the village and where the defibrillator is to be located.

The Lurganboy Defibrillator meeting organisers say 'thank you to all who have donated towards this (the defibrillator) and we look forward to seeing as many there as possible' at Monday night's meeting. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Town Tidy Up

A Manorhamilton Tidy Towns Committee organised weekly clean-up takes place this Thursday evening, August 8, between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. while the weekly tidy ups will continue for the rest of the summer season on Thursday evenings.

All volunteers who wish to help out with the weekly clean-ups will be most welcome. The assembly point for the weekly clean-ups for all volunteers who turn out will be the front of the Bee Park Community Centre at 7 p.m.

Mass Rock Mass

A Mass will be celebrated on the feast of St Felim at the Leckanarainey Mass Rock in Mullies on Friday evening, August 7, at 7 p.m.

The Leckanarainey Mass Rock was the local safe site for worship for members of the Roman Catholic faith in penal times during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

Social Dance

A Social Dance will take place in Ballintogher Community Centre on this Friday night, August 9, at 9.30 p.m.

The music for the Ballintogher Social Dance will be provided by the popular Michael Walsh and friends band. Beidh fáilte roimh gach éinne.

Parish Meeting

There will be a parish meeting this evening, Wednesday, August 7, at 8 p.m. in the Depot, Dromahair, to discuss arrangements for saying 'Farewell' to Fr Fagan and Fr Sexton. Sadly, both priests as we know are leaving the parish at the end of August. Anyone, who would like to be involved in the organising of this 'social event' is invited to attend this meeting. All are welcome, so please do come along.

Sincere Thanks

A note of heartfelt gratitude to all who participated in the re-painting of the Newtownmanor Hall last week. An excellent job was done, by a cheery band of workers. Everyone, who came along found their niche and made their contribution, without discrimination of any kind, on grounds of age, gender, ability or any other criteria. Well done to all involved. It was co-operative team work at its best.

Bingo

Bingo continues on Mondays in the function room of the Blue Devon, Dromahair, at 9 p.m. For those of you who are not regulars, it is a great social occasion, as well a fun opportunity to experience the thrill and frustration of getting/not getting the numbers you need. All lines €30, except games 5 and 10, which are €50; all full houses €100 and last game €200.

So why not come along and support your local bingo. Who knows you might be lucky.

Hall Bookings

Newtownmanor Hall is available for booking, by adult groups, wishing to organise an event or training. Hall costs are €15 per hour.

The 'Reel' Thing

Welcome to the 'Reel' Thing at 'From the Bronx to the Boffin'. A celebration of music by Cherish the ladies, on CD, in the Morrison Teach Ceoil on Sunday, August 11, at 8 p.m. Host and compere for the night is Damien Dwyer. Admission is €5 per person. Refreshments will be served.

Riverstown community welcomes the Clover Cafe to Sligo Folk Park. The Clover Cafe is now open in Sligo Folk Park, serving breakfast, lunch and tasty homemade treats along with a selection of tea and gourmet coffee. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday and midday to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Show success

A hearty thank you to everyone for making the 2019 Sligo County Agricultural Show such a success. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out on the day, to all the visitors and competitors who helped create such a great atmosphere and to all the sponsors and judges who kindly supported us. The Show Committee are very grateful for the communities' consistent support.
