CONNOLLY PARK HOSTS SLIGO V DOWN - The club were delighted to have the honour of hosting Sligo's opening National League game against Down last Sunday. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be Sligo's day as Down scored a goal in the last few minutes of the game to take home the bragging rights on a score line of 1-10 to 1-12. Thanks to both sets of supporters who were very cooperative on the day. It was with great pride that the club could host a game of such significance and we would like to thank all who volunteered on the day in every capacity as it was a real community effort.
The club is currently reaching out to local businesses to advertise at Connolly Park in the form of a pitch side sign.

NURSERY PROGRAMME - Owenmore Gaels are hosting a Nursery Programme in the Teeling Centre Collooney. It continues this Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is an introduction to Gaelic Football for kids in the community in a fun filled environment. It will run for six weeks and it's €2 per child. This is aimed for children aged between 4-6, born in 2013-2014. Parents are invited to participate in activities. Any queries please contact Paddy Watters at 085 8512889.

COACHING WORKSHOP - There is a foundation course taking place at the end of the month in Summerhill College. This is essential for anybody who is or wants to get involved in coaching. It is an extremely informative and worthwhile course, giving great knowledge and ideas for working with kids development. LOTTO - The lotto draw took place in Connollys on Monday, January 21. The numbers drawn were 6, 14, 16 and 27. There was no winner of the €10,000 jackpot. Congratulations to our lucky-dip winners Ann Murphy, Sharon Carty, John Walsh and Joan Mullen (Online Lucky Dip) who each get €30. CONDOLENCES - The club is deeply saddend to have learned of the passing of Robert Lawson of Roselawn, Castleknock, Dublin 15 and formerly of Carrickbanagher, Co. Sligo. Robert played with the club at all levels and was a member of the victorious under-12 team in 1972 (Please see photo below) He played in two Intermediate Finals in 1979 + 1980 and represented Sligo at senior level playing against Roscommon in the 1982 Connacht Championship. In the mid 80's Robert moved to Dublin but always followed the club's progress.
The club wish to extend sympathies to his wife Ada, his sons Theophilus and Paul, his mother Muriel and the extended Lawson family.
Restricted Members Draw - New Launch. Coolaney United are looking for 50 individuals, groups or syndicates to donate €25 per month for 12 months. 60% of funds will be used to purchase Euromillions and lotto Tickets. 40% of funds will go towards the Community Park Development. Art Competition will take place on Sunday, February 24, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Community Centre. Your art must be based on any Community Games event. Paper will be supplied but please bring your own pencils/colours/paints etc. Visual Aids will not be permitted i.e. photos, transfers, mobile phones and devices etc. You can also register on the day for the event. Ireland Lights Up: In conjunction with the local Operation Transformation Group, Nace O'Dowd Park will be lit up on Thursday evenings (until February 21) from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to facilitate a safe environment for walking. Everyone taking part must register. All welcome, spread the word.
Blue Kidz Training: Training starts back on Saturday mornings at the Teeling Centre Collooney. All kids must be registered online. €10 per child. U6s: 9 a.m. to 9.35 a.m. under-eights: 9.35 a.m. to 10.15 a.m., under-10s: 10.15.11 a.m. New parents and children are very welcome to come along and get involved in their local GAA Club.
Defibrillator: The new Defibrillator is now installed at Nace O'Dowd Park. Several club players, members and coaches have already completed a CPR training course. Club lotto: The 2019 Coolaney-Mullinabreena Club Supporter's lotto was launched at last week's monthly meeting. The new rebranded offering remains our main club fundraiser for the year. We appeal to all club members, supporters, senior players, coaches, sponsors and families to renew their subscriptions. We also make a fresh appeal to recruit many new subscribers this year and welcome the support of anyone with club connections who may wish to contribute. All support is greatly appreciated. All proceeds go towards day to day expenses and Nace O'Dowd Park Development.

The death has occurred peacefully on January 18 at St Anne's Hospice, Cheadle, Manchester of James (Jim) Turner, a grand nephew of the legendary fiddle player Michael Coleman. The Irish Music Centre in Gurteen is dedicated to the great Michael Coleman of Killavill and Jim had visited the centre some years ago.
Jim was born in Hulme, Manchester to Tom and Molly Turner (née Coleman) and as a school boy he had learned to play the accordion and later played the pipes with the Wythenshawe Pipe Band. He had a great interest in Michael Coleman's music and passed away listening to Michael Coleman's music on a personal listening device on his pillow.
After Requiem Mass in St Peter's Church, Hazel Grove, Stockport, Greater Manchester on Friday last, February 1, he was laid to rest in Mill Lane Cemetery, Cheadle. Sympathy is extended to all his family and friends: to his cousins Michael Joe and Pat McGovern, Mount Irwin: Beatie McManamey, Harristown, Kathleen O'Gara Sligo, Angela Leamy, Bunninadden, Patricia Keane, Knockgrania, Killavil, Seán Davey, Swinford and Thomas Davey, England. May he rest in peace.
Bingo takes place every Friday night in Gurteen Hall at 8.30 p.m. Jackpot is €2,300 in 46 calls and the lotto game is €300 Proceeds goes to the upkeep of the hall and the local Eastern Harps GAA Club.
