Around the districts: Cloonacool, Gurteen, Keash - Culfadda, Merville, Skreen - Dromard
Cloonacool: Community Café - The Mill Community Café now has a team of willing volunteer staff, regular bakers and happy customers.
New people are finding their way to the Mill every week, old friends meet there and new friendships are formed there. If you know somebody in the community who hasn't visited yet, please invite them along or consider giving someone a café gift voucher.
The Mill Café opens Fri, Sat and Sun 10.00-14.00. All profits from the cafe will be used to support community projects. The community shop sells Sunday newspapers and some grocery items.
As part of the new community initiative process, The Cloonacool Sheep Festival is earmarked for September 21 next. The one-day event will highlight the sheep tradition of the parish and will include a day section filled with exhibitions and activities. The festival will finish off with a gala festival dance in the community centre in the safe hands of John Hogan and his band from Co Offaly. Please keep the date free and make sure to invite friends when the times arrives.
Unveiling of Plan
The community of Cloonacool have been working on a Strategic Action Plan for the past few months. The project was made possible with the help of a grant from Sligo Leader Partnership. The details of the plan are now completed and will be presented at a public event to take place in Cloonacool Community Centre this coming Friday, August 23, at 7.30 p.m. The event also marks the official opening of the Mill Community Café. All are invited to attend.
Community Park draw
The Cloonacool Community Park lotto draw for July took place in Brennan's on Saturday night. There was no winner of the €3,200 jackpot the numbers drawn were 2, 15, 17 and 19. There were two match-three winners Simon mc vann and Frank Johnston. They won €100 each. Next month's jackpot will be worth €3,300 many thanks for your generous support.
The Cloonacool card game is 9 p.m. on Mondays. This start time is for the summer season.

The death took place on August 7 of Gerry Callaghan, Mockmoyne, Boyle - he was brother - in-law of Gertrude Crummy, Cloonloo. He is survived by his wife Eileen and family Claire, David and Paul - sympathy is extended to them and to all his relatives and friends on their bereavement. May he rest in peace.
THE death took place on July 19 of John Taylor of 75, Runcorn, Cheshire England - his father was Brian from Carrentemple He was cousin of Nora O'Connor, Carrentemple and Geraldine Towey, Killavil. Sincere sympathy is extended to them and to all his relations and friends. May he rest in peace.

Coleman Traditional Festival
The official opening of the 2019 Coleman Festival will be performed by the Ard Stiurthoir of CCE Labhras O'Mhurchu on tomorrow Wednesday evening, August 21, commencing at 7.30 p.m. followed by 'The Michael Coleman Story' with guest musicians Colm O'Donnell, Oisin Mac.
Diarmada and Harry McGowan. Thursday night is dedicated to the younger generation with a junior session at 8.30 p.m. and all young musicians are invited to come and the adults are also invited to come along and support the next generation of traditional musicians singers and dancers.
On Friday night there is a Rambling House in the replica Coleman Cottage at Mount Irwin with Ceoltoiri Coleman and all are welcome - Fear an Ti will be Martin Donoghue from Cavan.
On Saturday night the well-know Roscommon traditional group Gatehouse with John Wynne John McEvoy Jacinta McEvoy and Rachel Garvey are in concert and on Sunday night the 2018 all-Ireland ceili band winners - the Blackwater ceili band will be in concert - tickets selling fast - refreshments served at all the events - for more information and to book tickets contact 071 9182599. organised by Craobh Coleman Branch of CCE.
North West Hospice Walk
Culfadda's annual walk in aid of North West Hospice on Sunday, September 8. Registration at 12, 30 in Culfadda Hall. Rose of Tralee
Congratulations and best wishes to Molly Eastman, who will be representing Washington D. C. at this year's Rose of Tralee. Molly is living in the US Capitol and works as a staffer in the office of Idaho Senator Mike Crapo. Molly is the granddaughter of Gerry and the late Kathleen Pilkington Kilfree, Gurteen and daughter of Annette (Pilkington) and John Eastman, Jackson Hole Wyoming.
Molly has received very generous sponsorship from local fashion retailer Kathleen's Fashion at Lyons and Lisa Griffin Designs'. She will proudly be showcasing these Sligo businesses during the Rose Festival which kicks off this week. The Rose of Tralee Festival will be televised live on RTÉ one on Monday and Tuesday, August 26, and 27.
Garland Sunday Review Meeting
A meeting of the Keash on Garland Sunday Committee will be held in Keash Hall on Thursday night next, August 22, commencing at 9 p.m.
The purpose of the meeting is to review Garland Sunday Festival 2019 and to plan ahead for next year. New members and new ideas are most welcome as we endeavour to make the Garland Sunday Festival 2020 bigger and better than ever.

Dreamchasers Childcare Service at Merville have morning places for Pre-School Children under the EECE Free Preschool Year Programme available for September 2019. The Early Childhood and Education programme (ECCE) provides children with their first formal experience of early learning before they start primary school. The programme is provided for three hours per day, five days per week over 38 weeks per year. The ECCE term runs from September to June each year. Children are eligible for two full programme years of ECCE Children must be at least two years and eight months of age by August 31 of the year of entry to the programme. 108th Beltra Show
The 108th Beltra Show will be held on Saturday, September 7, in Beltra Hall and grounds. There is a very full programme of events which include - A jiving competition live music with michael walshe most appropriately dressed lady and gent for the show competition all-Ireland Gun dog championship novelty dog show potato picking competition bonny baby competition fancy dress competition sheep dog trials sheep judging and all the usual home produce classes with many more events and entertainment to suit everyone.
A Fundraising Raffle will be held in Rafter's Bar Larkhill, Beltra on the Shown Night. Raffle ticket sellers will be calling door to door in the local areas over the coming weeks.

World Champion Congratulations
Congratulations to local girl Ellen Tempany, Skreen and her team members on their great achievement in becoming World Champion Winners in the under-14 Lyrical Quad Dancing from the Lisa Cooper Dance Academy.
The championship was held in Stratford on Avon, England over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Well done to all involved.
