CLOONACOOL

Jack Brennan remembered

One of Cloonacool’s most famous sons, Jack Brennan, was remembered for his War of Independence exploits in a lovely piece heard on Sunday last on RTE Radio’s, Sunday Miscellany. The contribution was written and performed by Breege Brennan, his granddaughter. The piece can still be heard on RTE Radio Player if you missed it on the day.

Park Lotto

The Community Park Lotto draw for June took place last weekend. There was no winner of the €6,700 jackpot. The numbers drawn were 11, 13, 19 & 31. Congratulations to our three match three winners; Francis Kelly, Richard & Patrina McCarthy and Kate, Tara, Eoin & Liam Carty.

The winner of the Surlis Supervalu voucher was Joe & Veronica Corscadden. Thanks to Surlis Supervalu for their generous support. Next month’s jackpot will be worth €6,800. Renewed thanks for your continued support.

Music Club

The Music Club is back performing this week in the Community Centre on this Thursday 30th June. 9pm is start time and all musicians of all ages and audience members are welcome. This is bonfire night and an excuse to get out a try something different. This session offers a great chance for your singers and musicians from all parts to come along and try out their material in a safe and encouraging space.

Café Open

The Mill Community Café will be open again this coming weekend 10am to 2pm Saturday and Sunday. Note however that Friday opening time is now 11am.

West Sligo Family Resource Centre

Our office has re-opened with a new Covid Policy, and we are able to provide support and services again. Please contact 096-37444 between 9.30am to 5.30pm for more information. We are available for photocopying, printing etc., pre-booking is advised. As a point of Information, we now have a defibrillator mounted on our wall outside, and our office is situated in the car park behind the library.

Our family support service offers a safe and confidential space to seek support, advice and guidance offering practical help and emotional support to families. No appointment necessary, call into the West Sligo Family Resource Centre between 10.00am and 1.00pm or call Heather 0872506773 or 09637444.

Gambling Therapy and Support Service: Provide counselling and support for people experiencing problem gambling, including those impacted by the gambler’s behaviour. The service also raises awareness and aids prevention. Contact 086-0597441 for more information.

Buggy Buddies & More every Tuesday morning at 10am, all welcome.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have been selected as one of the charities chosen by the RTE Toy Show Appeal. We have been awarded €20,000 to enhance the personal and emotional development of children and young people through creative programmes and activities. This will allow us to appoint a part-time child and youth development worker for one year to deliver programmes and activities to children and young people throughout West Sligo.

Condolences

Condolences to the family and friends of Mary Coleman (nee O’Boyle) of Bridge St., Enniscrone, Co. Sligo & formerly of Tooreen Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, who passed away peacefully at the Ard na Gréine Nursing Home, Enniscrone. Predeceased by her husband Robert. Mary, beloved mother of Edward, Alice, Brian & David. Sadly missed by her daughter & sons, daughters-in-law Una & Roísin, sister-in-law Alice Kate, grandchildren Geoff, Andrew, Sarah, Sinead & Ronan, niece, nephews, relatives and friends. May she RIP.

Presentation

Congratulations to the The Castle Inn, Easkey who presented a cheque to North West Hospice for €4,200 from their Barbeque held on June 11th in memory of Pauric Bonner. A great night was had by all! Thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes and everyone who supported the team at The Castle Inn.

Enniscrone Tidy towns

A big thanks to Enniscrone /Kilglass GAA who have volunteered to do a Sunday morning Beach Clean on 26th June next at 9am.

Enniscrone Tidy Towns really appreciates their assistance, and that of all the other clubs, residents’ associations, and groups, coming along to help us in the coming weeks. Enniscrone has a superb beach, and this is a fantastic community effort to help keep it clean during our busy summer months. A special word of thanks to Grainne Queenan for making it happen!

Local Swimmers & Dippers

Kilglass Enniscrone Utd Football Club are coming out on Sunday July 3rd, and the ‘Local Swimmers & Dippers’ are on for July 10th.

Grainne is busy confirming dates with other groups for July 17th, 24th & 31st, as well as August 7th, 14th & 21st. Let us know if your club or group would like to participate.

Enniscrone Men’s shed

Last week Greg Clarke HSE Health Promotions came out to the shed to have a walk and talk with the men about mental health as last week was Men’s health week. Thank you again Greg for coming out and for the West Sligo Family Resource Centre for facilitating us.

Black Pig Festival

The Black Pig Festival is BACK. 21st to 25th July–Stay posted for further info over the next few days!

We have a full schedule from Thursday evening of the 21st right through to the 10km run race on Monday the 25th. Lots of street music, tons of events, fun for all the family and a market day, plus fireworks!

Open water swim

There’s something for everyone this year at the open water swim Sunday 3rd July at 9.30am, with swim events for the children over 8, teens, competitive and non-competitive adults. Enter now at https://www.swimireland.ie/open-water/open-water-events. The organisers of the event are looking for help on the morning of the swim if anyone is free to assist in stewarding.

Enniscrone Kilglass Community Games

All our competitors were excellent in their events over the weekend. We brought home some Medals in individual and relay events.

Thomas Battle U14 800m Bronze, relay U12 boys 100m Bronze for Ryan Tuffy, Dylan Jackson, Cillian Regan and Danny Deehan, cycling on grass Kake O Meara Bronze. A few more have qualified for the regional fínals in July Roisín Donegan U8 80m, Ryan Tuffy U12 100m.

Well done to them all and good luck for the future, both our U6 competitors won their 60m races Chroía Walsh and Niall Kilcullen county champions, the future is looking bright for Enniscrone Athletics.

Congratulations to Lily Creighton who won a gold medal this evening in the county U12 cycling competition. Well done also to Geordan McCormack who won a silver medal in the U14 county cycling competition.

Congratulations to our U11 Tag Rugby team who won silver county medals tonight also. Well done to everyone who participated in the track and field events over the weekend. We have some medals back to the parish today. We would like to congratulate all Junior Cycle, Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied students who have completed their state exams. Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Well, Dromard on this Wednesday June 29th at 7pm.

Cemetery Masses

Mass for all the deceased buried in Dromard Old Cemetery will be celebrated on Saturday July 2nd at 7pm and will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Skreen on Sunday July 24th at 11.30am.

Beltra Country Market.

Beltra Country Market in Beltra Hall on Saturday July 9th from 10am to 1pm will host A Morning for Ukraine. There will be food music fun and games for children. Opening our door and hearts to the wider community. All welcome.

July Social Dance

The July Social Dance in the Community Centre, Skreen will be held on Saturday July 30th with dancing from 9pm. Music will be supplied by Olivia Douglas & everyone is welcome.
