Feile 2019

We are delighted to announce that Castleconnor will be a host venue for 2019 Féile Peile na nÓg. The event takes place the weekend June 28 to June 30. Teams from every county in Ireland as well as overseas are invited to take part and one will be assigned to us. Castleconnor will enter a team into the competition and will be comprised of under-14 and under-12 boys. We now need volunteers to make this a success, especially host families who will be asked to house two kids or coaches from the visiting team. As parents and Gaels, please consider volunteering for this and help us make this a fabulous weekend to remember for all our community and especially our kids.

Community Games

Our track and field events will take place on May 12 at 2 p.m. at the Castleconnor pitch. Don't forget to bring your sacks and eggs and spoons for novelty races, looking forward to seeing all our competitors there.

Easkey-Dromore West

60th wedding anniversary

Congratulations to Paddy and Teresa Carr, Cabra, Rathlee, who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday April28. Celebrations began with Mass in Rathlee Church celebrated by Canon George McHale PP Kilglass. The festivities continued in the Diamond Coast Hotel with family, friends and neighbours. Congratulations also to Paddy, who recently celebrated his 90 birthday.

Farm plastic collection

A farm plastic collection will be held at Frank Flannely's farm, Finod on Thursday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and in Skreen at Eamon Burkes on same day from 3to 5 p.m.

School reunion

The Diamond Coast Hotel was the venue on Friday, April 26, for the reunion of the class of 1969-1974 from the Jesus and Mary Secondary School. 26 past pupils with some travelling from Manhattan, London and all parts of Ireland came to recall memories from school days and catch up on their lives since they started secondary school in Enniscrone 50 years ago this September.

Draughts success

Well done to the Easkey under-12 draughts team - Laura McGuire, Noah Sloyan, Conor Colleary, Niamh Harte, Anna Feeney, Meabh Murray and Harry Lavelle on winning silver medals in the Connacht Community Games final held in Ballinasloe. Their coaches were Tara Murray and Mary McHugh.

Willis Cuffe R.I.P.

The death has taken place of Willis Cuffe, Ard Na Greine nursing home and late of Skreen. Funeral service took place in St Mary's Church, Kilmacshalgan, Dromore West followed by committal in Churchill Cemetry. Sympathy is extended to his family and relatives.

Resource Centre AGM postponed

Due to the passing of former chairperson of the West Sligo Family Resource Centre Mari Cummins the annual general meeting was postponed and will be held on Tuesday, May 7, at 11 a.m.

Rambling House on TV

I Mayo TV are recording 'Rambling House' in the Beach Bar, Aughris on Saturday, May 18, at 9.30 p.m. featuring local traditional musicians, singing, Irish dancing and special guests. The programme will be broadcast at a later date.

Lotto

There was no winner of the jackpot in the Easkey lotto draw on April 26. Enniscrone

Sympathy

Sympathy is extended to Brother Eddie and sister Mai, on the death of Patrick Murray (Paddy), Culleens, Sligo. Sympathy is extended also to his nephew, niece's, relatives, many friends and neighbours. Removal took place from Sweeney's funeral home on Monday, April 22, to Kilglass Church. Burial took place after 11 a.m. Mass Tuesday in Kilglass Cemetery may he rest in peace.

Parish mission

The Vincentian Fathers will conduct a Parish Mission (Enniscrone and Kilglass) on the week from 12th to May 18.

Walking club

Next walk on May 11 is Donegal (overnight trip, two walks). Saturday - Level: hard. Sunday - easy walk. Details of each week's walk are usually posted on Facebook. Facebook, com/walkenniscrone.

Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA

Our Intermediate footballers suffered a disappointing four-point defeat to local rivals Easkey on Sunday last, 1-9 to 2-10, at Quigabar. Level at half-time 1-3 to 0-6, our lads started the second half well but two Easkey goals in the second period proved decisive. Best of luck to the players and management.

The Enniscrone-Kilglass/Easkey minor footballers succumbed to two defeats last week to St Molaise Gaels and Ballymote-Bunninadden respectively.

Our under-14s played out a 5-9 to 6-6 draw with Castleconnor last Thursday evening. The blotto draw continues every Saturday night. Next week's jackpot will be €2,800. Thanks to all players for the continued support.

Tubbercurry 8K

The annual Tubbercurry 8km run, jog/walk in aid of Gallagher House Services will take place from Kilmactigue Community Centre (beside playground) on Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m. Registration will be from 6 p.m. on the day or pre - registration can be made before 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, at 071 9120624 or by calling into Gallagher House Garden Centre. Clock timing on the day. There will be prizes for first, second and third male and female. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the community centre. Cost per adult is €10. Everyone is welcome and your support will, as always, be greatly appreciated.

There was no winner of the €2,600 jackpot when the blotto draw took in Sheridan' Pub, Kilglass on Saturday, April 27. Numbers drawn were 15, 19 and 25. €25 winners were John Barrett, Michael Sheridan, Darren Finnerty and Susan Maree jackpot for the next draw is €2,800 and will take place on Saturday, May 4, in the Ocean Sands Hotel Enniscrone.

Tidy Towns

Enniscrone Tidy Towns urgently requires volunteers to come and help us prepare for the national Tidy Towns Competition. Every Thursday evening during the months on May and June we are holding work details for about an hour to try and get jobs done to help improve the look of the area. We will begin on Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m. down by the pier to paint the benches and planter boxes, and do a general tidy-up. Details of each Thursdays task will be posted on our Facebook page. Your help will be much appreciated.

Kilglass/Enniscrone FC

Following the recent Eddie and Gerry quiz nights €1.200 was donated to the oncology unit in Sligo General Hospital and €1.200 to little people of Ireland for Gerry's Charity. €100 was also donated to North West Hospice. Thanks to all who supported these great causes.

Darkness into Light

Baby Boy

Congratulations to Kathy (née Clarke) and Dermot Hough, Carradurneen, Skreen on the birth of their baby boy who was born on February 13 and baptised on April 22.

Community Games

The local Community Games organisation are hoping to run both the field and track events on the same day - Sunday, May 12, To do this volunteer help will be needed - approximately 15 people. Anyone in a position to help out should contact the secretary as soon as possible.

Fundraiser

The Kennedy Trust fundraising event Come Cook with Us with Chef Joe Shannon will take place in the Diamond Coast Hotel, Enniscrone on this Thursday, May 9, Admission is €15.

Sympathy
