Castleconnor GAA

The seniors were delighted to play in the Fintan Tuohy Memorial Cup Last Friday the ninth against our Neighbours, Bunniconlon. Fintan Tuohy was the brother of our current manager Donie and he passed away a number of years back. On the day Bunniconlon were the winners but it was a great run out for our lads in preparation for the championship game against Easkey in a couple of weeks. All funds gathered were donated to Croi the Irish heart and Stroke Charity.

Our Reserve team were also in action on Saturday and were narrowly beaten in Enniscrone by two points.

Minor Football - On Thursday, August 8, the lads travelled to Tourlestrane but after a good battle they came out on the wrong side of a 1-20 to 2-9 score line.

Under-12 Football - Our under-12s were in a county championship semi-final on Tuesday the 13th against the Ballymote-Bunninadden amalgamation. It was clear from the start the age difference with our opposition having a full team in their second year at this age. However, our lads gave a massive display against the odds, were level after the first quarter and although they fell behind in the middle two quarters they made a big push in the last and held their own. A feature of this team was the work rate and tackling which was outstanding. However, in the end the stronger team won, Ballymote-Bunninadden running out 0-20 to 0-13 winners.

Under-12 Hurling - Good luck to our under-12 hurlers who are in the county final next Tuesday the 20th against Western Gaels. The game is in Scarden and throws in at 7.30 p.m. We encourage all our members to try and support the team.

Under-eight/under-10/under-12 Croke Park Trip - Last Saturday the 17th two busloads of under-12s, under-10s and under-eights (and their parents) travelled on a club outing to Croke Park where they were in the Davin Stand to watch Dublin play Mayo. This was a hugely successful trip, thoroughly enjoyed by the kids and we are sure that this will inspire them in their future sporting endeavours. There were lots of people involved in organising but the main organisers were Bord na nÓg chairman Ollie McHale and under-12 coach Olle Sexton. Without their hard work and organisational skills this trip would not have happened so a massive thanks to the two lads.

Frank Kelly 5k Milk Run - A date has been set for the annual Frank Kelly Milk Run. As most of you will know this is a 5k run/walk/jog which begins and finishes at the Castleconnor Community Centre. We are hoping to get more people than ever out at it this year and will soon begin advertising on Facebook etc. The important date to remember is Sunday, September 15, and the run will begin at 1 p.m.

Grounds Development - We are delighted to announce that the new fence installation around our pitch is complete. Many thanks to the contractors JNC Fencing, Our Pitch Committee, The Sports Capital Programme and all the club volunteers who worked hard to make this happen. The new set-up got its first run out as St Brendan's Park hosted the Intermediate Championship meeting of Kilglass/Enniscrone and St Pat's last Saturday.

Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA

Our Intermediate team secured their third win in the group stage of the championship with a hard-earned 1-9 to 0-9 win over St Patrick's in Castleconnor last Saturday evening. In dreadful conditions, our lads did just enough to end as winners. They have a break in competitive action now till September 7/8, as focus switches to their last group match against Bunninadden.

Our Junior B footballers put in a good display to get their first win of the championship on Sunday evening at Quigabar, overcoming Castleconnor by two points, 2-9 to 2-7. With one win from their two group games, the lads now need other results to go their way to progress to the knockout stages.

The Enniscrone-Kilglass/Easkey minor team beat Shamrock Gaels by three points, 0-11 to 0-8, in the championship last Thursday evening. Their final group game is against St Farnan's/St Patrick's in September.

Our under-16s play Coolaney-Mullinabreena at home on Monday, August 12, at 7 p.m.

Our under-14s produced a good display to beat St Patrick's by 4-8 to 2-11 in Dromard last Thursday. With their three groups matches now played, the lads are guaranteed to top the group with three wins. Details of the knockout stages will be confirmed in due course.

Our under-12s play Eastern Harps in the semi-final on Friday evening at 7 p.m. in Quigabar. Good luck to the players and management.

Our under-six GAA nursery program continues every Monday from 6.45 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. in the indoor astroturf in Quigabar. This is for boys and girls born in 2013 and 2014. Kids are asked to wear appropriate gear and bring bottle of water.
