Anyone, who has such photos are asked to consider loaning them to have copies taken after which they will be returned to owners.

Street Scape meeting

What a turn-out for the last minute meeting that was called by Sligo County Council to discuss the proposed plan to change the Street Scape of Easkey Village. Thanks to everyone who made the effort to attend and to all those who sent apologise because they were unable to attend but still wanted their views voiced.

In excess of 100 concerned residents attended this meeting and it was unanimously agreed that the pedestrian crossing in the middle of the village was a 'Non-Starter'.

We also need to say thank you to the 40+ residents who sent their concerns to the council before this meeting. After it was clear that this proposal was totally rejected by the community and it was agreed to shelf the plan, requests were then voiced that the €19,800 might be put to other uses such as speed ramps that might be positioned where they wouldn't restrict parking or even used for a much needed playground.

Sadly it was explained that this money could not be used for anything other than a pedestrian crossing, so it was then agreed that the money should be returned to CLÁR and that hopefully a new traffic plan can be put forward at a later date after full consultation with the community.

Thank you to Joe Devaney for attending this meeting and explaining the proposal and to the three public representives who steered the meeting (Michael Clarke, Joe Queenan and Sinéad McGuire)

The end result from this meeting was as follows: one. The Proposed Pedestrian crossing plan will be shelved and the grant will be returned to CLÁR. Two. As per numerous requests prior to the meeting and again reiterated at the meeting, there now needs to be another Public Meeting organised to discuss the many issues and concerns that the whole community are voicing. This WILL be organised ASAP and everyone will be informed when the date has been set.
