Banada-Tourlestrane: Book launch - There was a large turn-out for the very successful Book Launch and Photo Exhibition of the book 'Kilmactigue Parish, History and Memories', in Banada Hall last Sunday.
There was a lot of memorabilia on display and this created many talking points among the people present. Well done to all who contributed items for the book and to those who put it all together in a book that reflects a lot of our heritage and history.

Kilmactigue Parish DVD
Part 17 of the Kilmactigue Parish Millennium DVD focusing on Banada Abbey Secondary School is now completed. The DVD features various aspects of school life recorded over the years 1999/2000 and may be of particular interest to the Leaving Cert and First year students, who attended the school during those years.
A meeting highlighting the dangers of new wireless broadband 5G, negative impact on Human life and Nature, will take place this Tuesday, August 13, at 8.30 p.m., in An Chroi buildings, Ballina Road, at the rear of Basta. All are very welcome and your support is greatly appreciated.

Drummartin Indoor Country Market (9km from Tubbercurry out on the Ballina Road besides Joe Dan's Pub) from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. every Saturday. Along with the usual great selection of local produce and crafts they are also introducing 'zero waste' rice, oats and flour - bring your own container and pay by weight. Lough Gill Heritage/Biodiversity Walk
The Carraroe Walking Group will be attending this lovely walk/talk and other interested people are welcome to come on next Tuesday, August 20, 19. Meet at Slish Wood car park at 10.30 Free Admission. Thanks to Local Authorities Waters Programme Michael Bell Sligo Branch of Bird Watch Ireland will conduct this Heritage Nature Walk on shores of Lough Gill to learn about the wildlife around the Lough. Parents are reminded children commencing School in September require review of their vaccinations. 25 Card Game
We are delighted to announce our regular Progressive 25 game will resume in Carraroe Community Centre of Tuesday, September 10, at 9 p.m. Usual prizes and jackpot will be available. Thank you to all who visited and helped at the Holy Well Ceremonies Garland weekend. Record numbers of pilgrims attended the Sunday Masses. Sincere thanks to our Sacristans, Eucharistic Minsters, Readers, Altar Servers, Collectors. Stewarts and Gardaí, and to all who helped with the setting up of the grounds. We are appealing to people not to dump their cig butt ends on our roads as they cause a white piece of paper left for volunteers to pick.
Lough Gill Tour
Carraroe and District Regeneration Association wishes George and Tina every success and best wishes operating from the new Doorly Park area. The schedule sailings each day are Parkes Castle 12.30 and 3.30 p.m. and Doorly Park 1.30 p.m. This is a wonderful tourist attraction in Sligo and brings access to Lough Gill and its association with Yeats to the people of Sligo and wider community. Carraroe Walking Group
Our next walk is on Tuesday, August 20 (Note change of day and time for this week) in Slish Wood We will meet in Slish Wood car park 10.30 a.m. Michael Bell will lead us on the walk and we will relax for our refreshments at the Dragon Fly Catering Cart in the car park for more chat around how we can support and protect our lake and its environment There is a What's App Text system in operation to update people each Sunday on meeting venue etc. Anyone not currently in the group is welcome to contact 087 2222835 or any member of the existing group to be added. The Carraroe community says special thanks to all our regular litter pickers who walk all our roads each week and keep the place looking so well. Remember many hands make light work. Anyone willing to pick on their own road is welcome to get involved; we will supply plastic bags, picker, gloves and Hi-Vis. The bags can be left at the dedicated location at Community Centre each Monday evening or early Tuesday morning for collection and disposal.

Kilglass House open day
An open day will be held at Kilglass House, on Saturday, August 17, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. This will be a celebration of the built and natural heritage of Kilglass House, Woodland and Walled Garden. Events include talk on history of Kilglass House, biodiversity workshops, and the launch of 'The Critters of Kilglass' - an original audio book written and produced by Tireragh Community Support Ltd. The death has taken place of Mary Hanley née Connaughton, Carrowmacbrine, Rathlee. Her funeral Mass was celebrated in Star of the Sea Church, Rathlee followed by burial in Roslea Cemetry. She was predeceased by her husband Michael John and is survived by her daughter Marian Browne, son Micheál, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, neighbours, relatives and friends to whom sympathy is extended.
Nine Peak challenge
Nine years old Carwyn Wood from Easkey is undertaking a unique summer challenge that is to climb Connacht's nine highest peaks in nine weeks to raise money for his school, Rathlee National School. Carwyn, whose parents are from Easkey Jamie Wood and Tracey Flatley has so far climbed Knocknarea, Knockmore, Croagh Patrick, Neiphin and Knocklongy with Mweelrea, Slievemore Croaghuan and Benbulben to go. The summer challenge is to raise money for the resurfacing of the school yard in Rathlee. He has reached his target of €2,000 and is still hoping to raise more.
Congratulations to Louise Lindsay and Australasia Ladies, who won the final of GAA World Games, after beating defending champions Parnells, a fantastic achievement played in Croke Park. Louise is from Easkey and a former player for Eoghan Rua LGFC Also congratulations to Ollie Gordon and Australasia camogie team who also won their final. Ollie from Easkey and former player for Easkey and Western Gaels hurling club was also manager for Australasia Native Men's football team who lost out in the Quarter finals to a strong New York team. Unfortunately James Rolston also former Easkey Player and the Australasia men's football team lost out in a tight final, but a great achievement to play on the hallowed turf. Well done to all, doing the Sea Blues proud.
A Street Festival will be held in Easkey on Saturday, September 14, from 2 p.m. onwards. A variety of entertainment will take place so save the date.
The Easkey under-13 Community Games girls' rounders team will represent Connacht at the all-Ireland finals which will be held in Limerick on August 18. Raffle tickets are on sale in local outlets to help support the girls.
Skreen social dance
The Skreen-Dromard social dance will be held on Saturday, August 31, in the community centre from 10 p.m. onwards. Music for dancing by Showbud.
The all-Ireland Fleadh will be held in Drogheda this weekend. Members of Tireragh CCE are wished good luck as they compete in various competitions.
A special function will be held on Friday, August 16, to mark the Golden Jubilee and Retirement of Fr Michael O'Horo. The evening will commence with Mass at 7 p.m. in St Adamnan's Church, Skreen followed by refreshments in the Skreen-Dromard Community Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend. He served for a number of years in Rathlee/Easkey parish.
