Ballisodare: Gaelic4Girls. Gaelic4Girls starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at Owenmore Gaels Ground, Collooney for 12 weeks. Open to girls aged eight to 12 years who are not registered with a Ladies' Gaelic Football Team. It introduces girls to football in a fun environment. Free herb planting demonstration

Ardcarne Garden Centre, Boyle and Roscommon will be holding a Free Herb Planting Demonstration on Saturday, March 9, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. discover how to grow your own fresh herbs in containers.

Annual book fair

The St Joseph's Boys School annual Book Fair is Wednesday, March 6, from 9 a.m. till 9.30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, from 9 a.m. till 9.30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, from 3.10 p.m. till 4.30 p.m. Friday, March 8, from 9 a.m. till 9.30 a.m. Monday, March 11, from 9 a.m. till 9.30 p.m. The annual Book Fair gives the school an opportunity to raise commission from book sales to stock up their library and classrooms. 'Bambini' movement class

The Fitt Factory is delighted to welcome 'Bambini' music and movement class for young children and their caregivers to Boyle. The first class commences Saturday, March 9, at 11 a.m. and concludes 11.45 a.m. Suitable for children ages 0-4 years, 'Bambini' will get your little one moving in this fun music and dance movement class. The kids booklist

New Children's Book Club for the ages of 7-9 and 0-12 will be held monthly in the Boyle Branch Library on Fridays at 3.30 p.m. Numbers are strictly limited so do not delay signing up.

Spring health wellbeing/craft fair

Bookings are now being taken for the Spring Health and Wellbeing Craft Fair that will take place in Boyle on Sunday, March 10, The fair will take place in the Spool Factory Event Centre from midday to 6 p.m. The event will feature complementary therapists, crafters, soap makers, crystals etc. For more details, contact Lucy at 089 6014843. I'm a Celebrity

Excitement is building ahead of next year's Boyle GAA organised 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' fundraiser. The event will take place on Saturday, March 16, in St Joseph's Hall. 24 contestants will battle it out to see who is the 'King or Queen of the Jungle'. The main sponsor of the night is LandEscape Pty Ltd, the Australian company run by Boyle man Pádraig Sweeney. Based on the popular TV show, this event is unlike anything you have seen before. Contestants are fully dressed in their campsite costumes and compete alongside live snakes, reptiles and spiders surrounded by a jungle background.

Angling club

The Paddy Sharkey Perpetual Memorial Lough Gara Cup will take place on Sunday, March 31, with fishing commencing at 11 a.m. till 5 p.m. Check in entries will be taken at Templeronan Pier. Short mat bowling

Short Mat Bowling continues in St Joseph's Hall on Wednesdays. It will take place from 7 p.m. till 9 p.m. Newcomers most welcome. Tuition given to new members.

Boyle golf club

Congratulations to our captains Séamus Gallagher and Regina McLoughlin for getting the golfing year off to a successful start with the traditional 'Drive In' which was held on Sunday, February 24.

There was a great turnout to support our captains and to take part in the scramble competition that followed. The winning team on the day was that of Terry Canning, Susan O'Mahoney and Willie Tiernan. Second place went to Karl Keenan, Mary O'Hara, Gerry O'Dowd and John Cryan and third place to Lorcan Egan, Lionel Lynn and Conor Hamill.

The two rounds of the club draw for January and February were held after the Drive In and the winners were as follows: January - first - Mary McKeon; second Brendan and Susan Gaffney; third Seán Heslin. February - first - Pat Conroy; second - Vincent and Moira Egan; third - Denis and Mary O'Donnell. First prize is €70, second and third get €40 apiece.

Waterford trip

Boyle Holiday Group are planning a trip to Waterford this June. The group will visit Dungarvan, Waterford City and other places of interest in the South east Coast. The trip will take place from Monday, June 10, to Friday, June 14. The group will be staying at the Park Hotel, Dungarvan. Cloonacool

Litter pick

The Community Environment Group has arranged a litter pick in association with An Taisce Spring Clean Campaign on Saturday, March 9. Meeting at midday at Community Centre to register and distribute bags. We would hope to have representatives from each of the various townlands to insure we cover the wider community. Please wear hi-vis clothing and gloves and children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Please follow our activities on the Cloonacool Village Facebook page.

Community Park Draw

The Community Park draw for February took place in Brennan's on Saturday night. There was no winner of the €2,700 jackpot the numbers drawn were 9, 20, 31 and 32. €200 was shared between Moya, Neasa and Siun mc Carrick and Dessie and Edel Haran. Next month's jackpot will be €2,800. Many thanks again for your generous support.

Card game

The card game in Cloonacool Community Centre will continue each Monday evening at 8.30 p.m.

Men's Shed

Community Cafe

The Mill Community Cafe will open on Sunday, March 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Cloonacool Community Centre. This is a new venture for Cloonacool and with a rota of volunteers it is hoped to make it a regular weekend event. All support will be greatly appreciated.

Heritage group

The new heritage group in the parish are in the process of collecting old photographs and local history. This collection will form the basis of a future exhibition and/or publication. Anyone interested in providing either photographs or stories can email the group on cloonacoolheritage@gmail.com.

Music Club

Cloonacool Music Club takes place on Thursday at Brennan's Bar from 10 p.m. Come along for a great night of music and singing. There will be a bus available to collect and leave home on Thursday nights for music club. Pick up between 9: 30 and 10 p.m., and then leaving Cloonacool after the food. Please ring 071 9185037 for further information and to book your seat. There will be a minimal charge for the bus.

Maugherow youth club

Maugherow Youth Club will be holding a bake sale and coffee afternoon on Sunday, March 10, at 12.30 p.m. in Maugherow Hall. All proceeds raised will go towards the yearly running of the youth club and purchase of new supplies for activities. All support would be gratefully appreciated and we would welcome any bakers from the area that would like to contribute baked goods on the day. Setup will be from 11 a.m.

Western Drama Festival

The Western Drama Festival 2019 is now in full swing and runs up to March 9 nightly at 8 p.m. in St Brigid's Hall, Tubbercurry. There is a great mix of plays included in this year's line up, with lots of drama and comedy over the week. The Adjudicator for this year's Festival is the inspirational Anna Walker, who comes with a great wealth of experience, enthusiasm and expertise.

Phoenix Players

Rehearsals are now in full swing for the Phoenix Players' forthcoming production of 'The Sound of Music' to be staged on 29th, March 30 and 31 and third, fourth, fifth, and April 6. Production Director Tom Walsh has assembled a cast of 80 ranging in ages from eight to 80 from all over South Sligo. Tickets will go on sale at the end of the month so watch this space. This will be a light hearted family show that will bring huge enjoyment to cast and audience.

'Walk to Run'

Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership are running an eight-week 'Walk to Run' Programme in Tubbercurry - A fun and supportive way to your first 5k. Starting on Thursday, March 7, from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. at Tubbercurry Family Resource Centre. Registration takes place at 7 p.m. before walk starts. Fee is €20. Indoor Rowing Fitness

Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership: are running a six-week Indoor Rowing Fitness Programme for men over 35 years on Tuesday nights from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Registration takes place with a 'Come and Try Evening' on Tuesday, March 12, at 8 p.m. in St Brigid's Hall. Aidan Brennan r.i.p.

The recent sudden death occurred of Aidan Brennan late of Stonepark, Ballymote. Aged 59, Aidan was a native of Mullinabreena, Chaffpool, just a few miles outside Tubbercurry and was son of the late Jim and Sarah. Aidan attended Doocastle Primary School and the Vocational School in Tubbercurry in the early/mid seventies. On completing his education Aidan went into the construction business, specialising in driving JCB and large machines and worked for many years with local builders and developers including Paddy McVann and various developers in and around Sligo. He was highly regarded by his work colleagues as and excellent driver and worker.

Aidan's remains reposed at his residence in Stonepark prior to removal to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballymote. Burial took place in St Columba's Cemetary, Ballymote. Predeceased by his parents and brothers Robert and Gabriel as well as by his son Keith, he is survived by his wife Ann, children Pamela, Robert, Gerard, Angela and Niall, grandchildren, in-laws, brother John (Mullinabreena) Kathleen (Donegal), Noreen Donoghue (Doocastle) and Ann (Sligo) as well as nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends, all to whom sympathy is extended. May he rest in peace.
