Largy NS in Belfast

Largy National School with its partner school, Kilbarron National School Ballyshannon recently participated in a Peace Prom in Belfast as part of a Peace IV CASE initiative.

Peace Prom is a cross-border initiative first begun in the 1990s and it involves a shared orchestra between schools from each side of the Border. It has, over the years grown enormously; now involving thousands of children from hundreds of schools, North and South, forming both the orchestra and in more recent year's a children's choir.

Largy National School joined in with 3,000 plus other children in the Belfast Arena in the Peace Prom event. They sang and danced a medley of songs that the students had been learning all year in school.

Fifteen parents of the Largy National School students also travelled to Belfast on the day. They enjoyed an excellent concert in which the students sang and did dance moves to a variety of popular songs that were sung by both soloists, as well as the students.

The atmosphere was electric. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. There were also performances by guest dancers, soloists, the orchestra and other musicians. It was really impressive. It was an experience not to be missed by all in the attendance and especially for everyone who travelled from Largy.

Post office Era Ends

Manorhamilton post office, which had run very successfully in Upper Main Street since the late Nora Flynn took over as Post Mistress in 1964 and which continued in business under Nora's son, Aodh as Post Master from 1972, sadly ceased operating on Saturday, March 31.

Meantime the new Manorhamilton post office commenced business in its SuperValu location off Upper Main Street on this Monday morning, April 1. Aodh Flynn reflected on the hearing of a major news item that he heard in his early days in the former post office.

He remembered listening to RTÉ Radio News and hearing on March 8 'in 1966 on the morning Nelson Pillar was blown up,' which coincidently happened just outside the General post office in the centre of Dublin's O'Connell Street.

Floral Demo

Meantime Easter Floral Demonstration tickets costing €10 available from Manor Fashions, Caz Cards and McMorrow Butchers as well as from any Tennis Club committee member.
