Around the districts: Ballinacarrow, Ballymote, Coolaney-Rockfield, Gurteen and Keash-Culfadda

Ballinacarrow - Church awarded €3,000: Church of St Fechin and St Lassara (RC), Ballinacarrow has been awarded €3,000 under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS).


The parents' association of Coláiste Muire, Ballymote, will hold a church gate collection on April 13 and 14. Funds raised will go towards the painting of the exterior of the school. All supported is appreciated.

Spring Clean

Spring Clean time is here and Owenmore Gaels want your items of clothing, bedding, curtains, shoes (pairs) handbags. No soiled items, pillows or duvets. Items can be dropped into the clubhouse or to any club member.

Card games

Card games take place every Thursday night in Ballinacarrow Community Centre at 9 p.m. Everybody welcome.

Access bus

Do you need to get to Sligo town during the week, the Tubbercurry Access bus can pick you up at your house and drop you back. Contact Eileen at 087 2252290 to book a place.


From Friday, June 28, to Sunday, June 30, Féile Peil na nÓg will be hosted throughout clubs in Connacht. Owenmore Gaels are delighted to host a girls under-14 team from Warickshire and a boys under-14 team from Co. Antrim. A number of families our our boys and girls under-14 teams have volunteered to host these children for the weekend.

We are also looking for additional host families for mentors, so please contact if you are interested in helping out. The club is also compiling a list of B and Bs in the area for parents and travelling supporters so if you are interested in being listed please contact the above email address.



There was no winner of the Ballymote lotto jackpot on Saturday, March 30. Numbers drawn were 17, 21, 26 and 28. There were three match-three winners. Names of winners displayed locally. The jackpot now stands at €8,000. The next draw will take place in John Doddy's on Saturday, April 13. Thank you for your support. The late Pat McCourt

The death has taken place of Pat McCourt in Birmingham following a long illness. Pat was a very well regarded frequent visitor to Ballymote for many years following his marriage to Phyllis Waters. Mass will be offered for Pat in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballymote on Saturday, May 4, at 8 p.m.

Michael Davitt - Celtic Connection

The Michael Davitt Museum in Straide, Foxford, Co. Mayo cordially invites Glasgow Celtic fans in the Ballymote area to a presentation entitled 'Michael Davitt - Celtic Connection' by Paul McQuade, author, historian and Celtic fan on this Friday, April 12, in the Davitt Museum at 8 p.m. There will be refreshments and music afterwards in the Copper Beech Bar, Straide. This is a free event and all are welcome.

The Parents Committee of Scoil Chriost Ri National School and the Coolaney Community Games are hosting a cake sale on Sunday, April 14, at 11 a.m. in the Coolaney Community Centre.

Sligo Camino

Registration for the Sligo Camino will be open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 13. This year's Camino will take place on July 6.

Tractor Run

Tractor Run in aid of Pieta House will take place on Sunday, May 12, leaving form the Mountain Inn at 2 p.m. Registration at 1 p.m. Tractor, vintage cars and Motor bikes welcome.

Easter Draw

Coolaney Rockfield Tidy Towns Housing estates, residents' associations, local area groups and community groups are invited to participate in the Easter 2019 Raffle Draw. All proceeds raised is kept by the group. This is a great way to raise funds for your group. Great prizes on offer all donated by local businesses. Community Park Fundraiser

As part of the fundraising effort for the Coolaney Community Park and to pay off the €80,000 loan, a new fundraiser has been launched called 'Lamb for Coolaney Community Park' where local farmers are being asked to donate a Lamb. The scheme works by farmers choosing one Lamb to rear per usual, and when it comes to selling the lamb, you donate the proceeds to the Coolaney Community Park Astro Pitch Fund.

All farmers who participate will receive recognition via a sign to be erected at the location of the Astro Pitch. Also, thanks to our friends in Aurivo co-op stores, we will give you a 25kg bag of Nutrias Lamb feed to assist with feeding the lamb.

Coolaney United

Bonus Ball: The Coolaney United Saturday night Bonus Ball Draw continues. The cost per ball is €5 and the weekly jackpot prize is €100. Bonus balls can be purchased in PK MEATS and O'Gradys shop. Thank you to all players and best of luck for the year ahead.

Foróige Club is for secondary school youths aged 12 to 18. The club takes place every Friday evening in the Coolaney Community Centre.

Card Games

Card game takes place in Killoran Community Centre on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. and in Ballinacarrow Community Centre on Thursdays at 9 p.m. All are very welcome.

Women's Group

Coolaney Women's Group Meetings continue in Coolaney Community Centre Thursdays at 10.30 a.m.

The interactive classes include activities, occasional days out and professional people to give talks and classes. New members are very welcome. Open to all ages.

Junior Youth Group

Meetings are every Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Coolaney Community Centre for Youths between the ages of 12-15.

Recent death

The death took place in Boston USA of Thomas Joseph Davey of Coagh, Killavil - brother of Francie of Coagh. Sincere sympathy is extended to Francie and to his brother Frank NJ and Sr. Una Kentucky. May he rest in peace.


Bingo takes place every Friday night in Gurteen Hall at 8.30 p.m. Jackpot is €3,100 in 48 calls and the lotto game is €200. Proceeds goes to the upkeep of the hall and the local Eastern Harps GAA Club.

Post point services

The Post Box has been relocated by An Post to Tansey's Centra, which has Post Point for stamps, pay bills, TV Licences. Centra staff can assist customers with ATM transactions etc. - they are very helpful to people who are trying to come to terms with the closure of the post office. Mass cards which were previously at the post office are now available at Centra.

Recent birth

Congratulations to Sinéad and Jude Redican on the birth on March 20 of a baby girl Ivy May a sister to Lucy, living in Brisbane Australia.


The late Margaret Gormley

We offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Cllr Margaret Gormley, Bunninadden, who passed away towards the end of last week. Margaret was a great friend to the people of our parish and worked tirelessly for them. She will be sadly missed. May her soul rest in peace.

Church news

For Lent, the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, saying of the Rosary and Benediction take place each Tuesday between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Mass times: Please note that Vigil Mass times have now switched to 8 p.m. each Saturday night, for summer.

Coláiste Muire Ballymote

There will be a church gate collection on Saturday the 13th and Sunday, April 14, at all churches in the area (ie Ballymote and surrounding areas to include Keash and Culfadda).

The parents' association are hoping to raise funds to paint the exterior of the school. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Cancer Support.
