Avalon Centre: Summer camp 2019. All four of our summer Camp weeks are now fully booked. We are taking names for a cancellation list in the event of any places becoming available. The cost is €100 per child, with a €20 deposit payable on registration and the balance to be paid TWO WEEKS prior to camp start.

Wednesday Welcome Club

Calling all over-50s in the County Sligo area. The Wednesday Welcome Club is a brand new, exciting programme running in the Avalon Centre. The club is a space for people over 50 to meet up, enjoy a cuppa and have a chat in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. You can also take part in a range of workshops and activities-or just watch.

The first six-week programme has now started. It runs from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. and includes the following two workshops-Sing your heart out. and dance for the hell of it. Membership is very limited so sign up today. A contribution of £50 is required.

Parent/Toddler Group

Our Parent and toddler group meets on Monday and Friday mornings from 10.30 a.m. to midday. Parents, grandparents and carers are all welcome. There is always a warm welcome with tea, coffee and refreshments provided. €3 per family.

Bright Minds

Open evening Bright Minds Pre-school at the Avalon Centre will be hosting an open evening on tomorrow, Wednesday, June 12, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Please come along and see our magnificent pre-school facilities and meet our wonderful staff Magdalena and Kasia, who will answer any queries you may have.

Our Bright Minds Pre-school operates from 9.15 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. and the Bright Minds School Age Child Care from 1.30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, September-June. Bright Minds are providers of the ECCE and Community Childcare Subvention Schemes, offering free Preschool spaces and subsidised school age child care spaces for eligible families. A limited number of spaces are still available in our pre-school. We are now taking enrolments for September, 2019. Social Day Centre

Our social day centre provides older adults with improved quality of life through opportunities for socialising and lifelong learning. It also provides them with a place to engage with their peers and promotes inclusion and integration of older people in the life of the community. The centre also aims to improve the mental health and well-being of older adults and to combat feelings of loneliness and isolation.

The social day centre runs four days per week, Tuesday to Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact the centre for further details. The programme is funded by the HSE and by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection.

Seniors Alert Scheme

The Avalon Centre are providers of the Seniors Alert Scheme. The Seniors Alert Scheme provides grant support for the supply of monitored personal alarms in the form of pendants or wrist watches that enable older people to continue to live securely in their homes. The grant covers the cost of the equipment and its installation. The first year of monitoring is free and will be €60 per year thereafter.

The Avalon Centre Bowling Club meets every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the centre. All are welcome-just call in on the day.


Bingo takes place every Friday night from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Double books cost €15, single books €10, half books €5 and single sheets €1. There is also a raffle on the night.

Youth Clubs

Our junior youth club (6-9 years) meets on Monday and Wednesday from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and our senior youth club (10 to 14 years) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Would you like to volunteer at the senior club? Volunteers would be required to supervise and take part in various activities such as sports, dance, snooker, table tennis and baking etc. with participants. Walking Group

The next walk is in Doorly Park on August 17 meeting at Doorly Boat House car park at 10.50 a.m. for registration. New Members Always Welcome Come join us to Boost your overall health, connect with your local community and have most importantly have fun.

Wall at ESB Power Station

Cadra has been working with ESB networks for the past two years to have this wall made more presentable to the community. We are pleased to be advised the ESB will undertake the work in June and it should take a week. Many thanks to the personnel in ESB networks for assistance.

Cadra Poster Campaign

Cadra is concerned that some local groups are littering our area with posters and would appreciate if such groups remove them and not leave them erected all summer as this impacts on our mark in Tidy Towns competition.

New Speed Warning Light

This light has now been erected on Cuilbeg Road thanks to Cllr Marie Casserly and former Cllr Séamus Kilgannon. We are now asking for a second one to be erected as you go from Pet Hospital to Holywell.

Footpaths and Walkways

Carraroe is continuing to campaign and has made application to have funding allocated to have more footpaths on our roads including Cuilbeg, Ballygawley and old N4 to Ballisadare. We have expressed interest to Sligo County Council in our area being considered for town and Villages Scheme for 2019.

Dancing in Carraroe

All learners and experienced dancers catered for at these sessions so come and enjoy. Dance class followed by live band each Wednesday night in Carraroe Community Centre Sligo. Dance class commences at 8.30 p.m. with live band from 9.30 p.m. to 11.30 p.m. Learn to jive, waltz, Quick Step and more. Carbon Monoxide Alarm Scheme

This free provision of alarms scheme has been announced and is available via local groups. Tidy Towns

Be Green Keep Carraroe Clean - We say thanks to the people who have kindly planted beds adjacent to their houses which make our area look so well. The Tuesday/Thursday volunteers have spent the past few evenings cleaning the triangle brick on the roundabout which make our area looking so clean and are now focused on area in front of Community Centre If each resident picked up one piece of litter each day it would make it easy for everyone.

Work Evenings - Our regular work evenings are each Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30. We would appreciate if anyone willing to give an hour would come to Community Centre at 7.30 p.m. Remember many hands make light work. Anyone willing to pick on their own road is welcome to get involved; we will supply plastic bags, picker, gloves and Hi-Vis. The bags can be left at the dedicated location at Community Centre each Monday evening or early Tuesday morning for collection and disposal.

Summer camp

MCR Kids Lane summer camps for children five to 12 years will take place from July 8 to July 12, July 15 to July 19, July 22 to July 26, July 29 to August 2. Kids lane

Playgroup enrolling now for September 2019. Open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday. Free ECCE year and subvention available TUSLA registered/qualified staff, fun filled curriculum, Aistear and Siolta programmes. Purpose built outdoor play area. Healthy snacks provided daily. The Active Retirement Group meets every Tuesday in the centre at 11 a.m.

Baby clinic

Clinic has resumed on Wednesdays between 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. (no appointment necessary). If you need to see a Public Health Nurse please phone 071 9155100 ext 5277 Monday-Friday between 9.30 and 10.30 to arrange an appointment.

Hall hire

Our Centre is available for room and hall hire at very competitive rates, and we offer excellent facilities for sports, meetings, parties and social events, including our sports hall, changing rooms with showers etc. Our hall is very popular for sports events, and also for children's parties as it can accommodate a bouncy castle. Do pop in to have a look, or call the centre on 9146512.


Multi activity summer camps

Merville Community Centre will be running Weekly Summer Camps and places are available for the weeks commencing Monday 1st July and Monday 8th July. The Camps Run from 10am to 2pm daily and feature a wide range of Fun Activities. This Year the Dreamchasers Summer Camp is open to children between the ages of 5 to 12 years old. Summer Camp fees-€60.00 per child, per week. Fee must be paid on registration. Centre activities

Merville Centre Host various activities in the Centre Hall. Merville Active Age is on Tuesday nights from 7:30pm with a busy schedule up to the Summer planned. Five Fist Kung Fu is on Fridays at 6:30pm. Piloxing with Amanda is on Tuesdays from 7pm. Further information on these and other activities is available from the Centre Office, or by turning up on the evenings of your chosen activity.

Extra spaces available

The Merville Centre have some extra Weekday Evening slots available in the Main Hall available for Hire by Local Groups and Activity Classes. Special Introductory Rates for New Long Term Bookings.
