Avalon Centre - Wednesday Welcome Club: Calling all over-50s in the County Sligo area. The Wednesday Welcome Club is a brand new, exciting programme running in the Avalon Centre. The club is a space for people over 50 to meet up, enjoy a cuppa and have a chat in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. You can also take part in a range of workshops and activities-or just watch.
The first six-week programme has now started. It runs from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. and includes the following two workshops-Sing your heart out. and dance for the hell of it. Membership is very limited so sign up today. A contribution of £50 is required. Our Parent and toddler group meets on Monday and Friday mornings from 10.30 a.m. to midday. Parents, grandparents and carers are all welcome. There is always a warm welcome with tea, coffee and refreshments provided. €3 per family.
Our Bright Minds Pre-school operates from 9.15 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. and the Bright Minds School Age Child Care from 1.30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, September-June. Bright Minds are providers of the ECCE and Community Childcare Subvention Schemes, offering free Preschool spaces and subsidised school age child care spaces for eligible families. A limited number of spaces are still available in our pre-school. We are now taking enrolments for September, 2019. Social Day Centre
Our social day centre provides older adults with improved quality of life through opportunities for socialising and lifelong learning. It also provides them with a place to engage with their peers and promotes inclusion and integration of older people in the life of the community. The centre also aims to improve the mental health and well-being of older adults and to combat feelings of loneliness and isolation.
The social day centre runs four days per week, Tuesday to Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact the centre for further details. The programme is funded by the HSE and by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection.
The Avalon Centre Bowling Club meets every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the centre. All are welcome-just call in on the day.
Bingo takes place every Friday night from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Double books cost €15, single books €10, half books €5 and single sheets €1. There is also a raffle on the night.
Our junior youth club (6-9 years) meets on Monday and Wednesday from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and our senior youth club (10 to 14 years) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Would you like to volunteer at the senior club? Volunteers would be required to supervise and take part in various activities such as sports, dance, snooker, table tennis and baking etc. with participants. 25 Card Game
Last Tuesday was the last game for this season and a large crowd of loyal supporters turned out for a great night of fun laughter and of course game of 25. The winners of €400 were Mary Collery/Ina Toolan on 12 Games and Runners-up on 10 Games for €200 were Jodie Cooney/Pascal McGoldrick.
All enjoyed the usual cakes Treats and tea or coffee and chat. The organisers want to say thanks to all who attended over the season the volunteers and ladies for the beautiful treats. The organisers look forward to see all back again on Tuesday, September 10, at 9 p.m. for more pleasant evenings of entertainment.
New Walking Group
A meeting of people interested in joining a new organised walking group will take place next Thursday, May 9, at 11.30 a.m. in Community Centre. Ms Diane Cox from Sligo Sports and Recreation Partnership will attend to discuss the process and assist us in establishing walking group. We want to involve as many as possible in the decisions around frequency, routes etc so please come along and assist us with such decisions.

Our regular work evenings are each Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30. We would appreciate if anyone willing to give an hour would come to Community Centre at 7.30 p.m. Remember many hands make light work.
It is noted four candidates have ignored the community request not to have posters in the area. We thank the candidates that have observed the community request and appreciate their support for this environmental initiative.
Residents are requested to remind all canvassers of the following issues which Cadra has highlighted to have addressed: Sligo Town Bus Service extended to the community centre, Set Back on Holywell Road at Cuilbeg, Footpaths on Cuilbeg Road to Holywell and Ballygawley Road, Bottle Banks, Speeding on our Roads, Traffic at School, safety of sight lines at junction of Ballygawley/Holywell Road, Development of village concept with vintage signage and lighting. All these issues have been highlighted to all elected representatives by Cadra over the years.
Frank is looking forward to continuing the great atmosphere of learning and fun this year in Carraroe Community Centre. All learners and experienced dancers catered for at these sessions so come and enjoy. Dance class followed by live band each Wednesday night in Carraroe Community Centre Sligo.

New Project at Lakeview
Cadra is currently considering a new project adjacent to Lakeview School. We are interested in hearing the opinions of residents living in that particular area We will have a meeting on June 8 at 8 p.m. to discuss ideas. Spring Clean Thanks
Cadra wishes to say special thanks to all who assisted with the annual Spring Clean. We wish to acknowledge the following for their special assistance; Gary Mullane from Mullane Plant Hire for sending his road sweeper free of charge to Cadra to sweep all roads around Carraroe and make the place look so well.
Thanks to James McGowan Sligo County Council for removing all the litter collected to the recycling depot.
We thank Owen and Paul McLean and Noel Merrick for travelling all roads to collect all 86 litter bags and tyres. We also thank the Carraroe Community Sports Field Committee for facilitating the community effort.
It was noted recently some people walking dogs on road from School to town area have dumped the fouling plastic bags into hedge and wall for others to remove. People are requested to please bring home and bin. There is an on the spot fine of €150 for such offences. Pooper-scoopers are available free from Sligo County Council.

The annual ICA walk is on next Sunday, May 12, at 3 p.m. The national AGM in Athlone on Sunday, May 26, 19. The yoga classes continue in Carraroe Community Centre on Wednesday mornings 10.30 a.m. to 11. 30 a.m.; this is part of our Go for Life programme.

Merville community centre in conjunction with Merville United has recently opened a new all weather pitch adjacent to the centre, and limited slots are available for hire. This pitch is ideal for seven a side soccer and various small sided games and activities especially for smaller groups not catered for on the larger facilities.
