Avalon Centre: Parent/Toddler Group. Our Little Buddies Parent and toddler group meets on Monday and Friday mornings from 10.30 a.m. to midday. Parents, grandparents and carers are all welcome. There is always a warm welcome with tea, coffee and refreshments provided. €3 per family.

Bright Minds

Our Bright Minds Pre-school operates from 9.15 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. and the Bright Minds School Age Care from 1.30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, September-June. Bright Minds are providers of the ECCE and Community Childcare Subvention Schemes, offering free Preschool spaces and subsidised school age care spaces for eligible families. A limited number of spaces are still available in our pre-school. We are now taking enrolments for September, 2019. Social Day Centre

Our social day centre provides older adults with improved quality of life through opportunities for socialising and lifelong learning. It also provides them with a place to engage with their peers and promotes inclusion and integration of older people in the life of the community.

The centre also aims to improve the mental health and well-being of older adults and to combat feelings of loneliness and isolation.

The social day centre runs four days per week, Tuesday to Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact the centre for further details. The programme is funded by the HSE and by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection.

Seniors Alert Scheme

The Avalon Centre are providers of the Seniors Alert Scheme. The Seniors Alert Scheme provides grant support for the supply of monitored personal alarms in the form of pendants or wrist watches that enable older people to continue to live securely in their homes.

The grant covers the cost of the equipment and its installation. The first year of monitoring is free and will be €60 per year thereafter. The Avalon Centre Bowling Club meets every Wednesday from 11á€=AFa.m. to 1á€=AFp.m. at the centre. All are welcome-just call in on the day.


Bingo takes place every Friday night from 9á€=AFp.m. to 11á€=AFp.m. Double books cost €15, single books €10, half books €5 and single sheets €1. There is also a raffle on the night.

Youth Clubs

Our junior youth club (6-9 years) meets on Monday and Wednesday from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and our senior youth club (10 to 14 years) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Would you like to volunteer at the senior club? Volunteers would be required to supervise and take part in various activities such as sports, dance, snooker, table tennis and baking etc. with participants. St Patrick's Day

At a recent meeting it was agreed that St Patrick's Day would be a opportunity for our community to celebrate this special day in our community by organising alcohol free events for our community including our Active Retired Seniors and Youths. It was agreed to organise the celebration on Sunday, March 17, commencing at 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Community Centre and Cuilbeg Community Field. We will have a hot meal served and some light entertainment. This is an opportunity to meet, chat and have a laugh with our neighbours and friends in our community.

Tonight's jackpot is now €480 the regular game is each Tuesday night at 9 p.m. in Community Centre Winners last week on 11 games were Johnny McLean/Nigel Durcan. Runners-up on 10 games were Margaret Healy/Michael Healy, Pádraig McLoughlin/John Lee. New and inexperienced players are always welcome. All proceeds go to local projects in the community spread the word and bring a friend.

Learn to Dance

Frank is looking forward to continuing the great atmosphere of learning and fun this year in Carraroe Community Centre. All learners and experienced dancers catered for at these sessions so come and enjoy. Dance class followed by live band each Wednesday night in Carraroe Community Centre Sligo.

If They Poop You Scoop

People walking their dogs on Carraroe roads are requested to remove fouling and not to dump into hedges as the plastic bags do not disintegrate and have to be removed by litter pickers - please bring home and bin. There is an on the spot fine of €150 for such offences. Pooper - scoopers are available free from Sligo County Council.

No Election Posters

Cadra has written to all declared Local Election and European Candidates to request their support and respect for our community wish not to have posters erected in our area during the elections in May. We have supplied our DEDs and Map of the area concerned. Please spread the word and ensure all supporters are aware. We have already received some acknowledgments and positive indications of compliance with our request from candidates and will be keeping you informed into the future.

Table quiz

Carney Women's Mini Marathon Team are holding a table quiz in Collins Pub on Saturday, March 9. All proceeds from the quiz are going to friends of Sligo University Hospital. Table of four is €20. Please support this worthy cause.

Active 60+ fitness class

SFX Sports and Fitness, Rathcormac are holding a moderate intensity class for the 60+ age group every Tuesday at 11 a.m. The class will focus on mobility, flexibility, strength as we age and moderate cardio. The baby clinic takes place every Wednesday from 2 p.m.- by appointment only.

Hall hire

Our Centre is available for room and hall hire at very competitive rates, and we offer excellent facilities for sports, meetings, parties and social events, including our sports hall, changing rooms with showers etc. Our hall is very popular for sports events, and also for children's parties as it can accommodate a bouncy castle. Centre activities

Merville Centre Host various activities in the centre hall. Merville Active Age is on Tuesday nights from 7.30 p.m. with a busy schedule up to the summer planned. Five Fist Kung Fu is on Fridays at 6.30 p.m. Piloxing with Amanda is on Tuesdays from 7 p.m. Further information on these and other activities is available from the centre office, or by turning up on the evenings of your chosen activity.

Astro facility

Merville Community Centre in Conjunction with Merville United has recently opened a New All Weather Pitch Adjacent to the centre, and Limited slots are available for hire. This pitch is ideal for seven a Side Soccer and various Small Sided games and activities especially for smaller groups not catered for on the Larger facilities.

The Facility is also available at Weekends in Conjunction with the Main Hall for Children's Birthday Parties in a Safe and Secure Environment. Please contact the centre office at 071 9150029 for Rates and Further Information.

Pendant alarms

Merville Community Centre facilitate on behalf of our community the provision to eligible persons of Social Monitored Pendant Alarms, under the Seniors Alert Scheme. First year monitoring is now free for all new applicants. Subsequent annual monitoring charges are then payable by the user. Contact 071 9150029 for further information.

The Merville Centre have some extra Weekday Evening slots available in the Main Hall available for Hire by Local Groups and Activity Classes. Special Introductory Rates for New Long Term Bookings.
