Achonry-Mullinabreena: Coolaney Run/Walk - The annual Coolaney 5km Run will take place on Friday, July 19 this year.

This well organised, chip timed event is growing annually and proves very popular on the circuit. In addition, this year will have a new 4km fun run/walk route for those wishing to participate at a slower pace. The Road Race starts at 7.30 p.m. and the 4km Fun Run/Walk at 7.40 p.m. Registration from 6 p.m. in Coolaney Community Centre.

The event is being organised by Coolaney-Mullinabreena GAA but the proceeds this year will be split 50/50 between the club and the new Coolaney astroturf project. It is hoped for a big response this year given the co-operative nature of the event. Refreshments served afterwards. Contact Gerry Lee at 086 8282263 for details.

Lupins Sale Finishes

All Lupins are sold. The community group are really happy with the response to this project. It was hard work but well worth the effort. Thank you to everyone for supporting us and let's hope you have loads of flowering lupins in your gardens for years to come. Huge thanks to the helpers who gave of their time.

Park Sign Sponsors

The local 25 card game takes a summer break now and will resume in Sept.

Enniscrone Show

The 30th annual Enniscrone Show will take place at Castleconnor Sports Complex on Sunday, July 7. Live Music will be provided by Gerry Guthrie and Ciaran Rosney. Local Musicians Kelly's Heroes and Pat's Country Road show will also be there. A great day out for all.

Curry Moylough

DVD launch

The launch of a DVD rolling back the year 1997 was held in Moylough Arts and Heritage centre by Tom Walsh last Friday evening brought back many memories of events during that year. Summer school

The 33rd South Sligo summer School takes place in Tubbercurry from July 14 to July 20. Large numbers of traditional musicians are expected to visit the area to enjoy classes, concerts, ceiles and sessions.

Easkey-Dromore West

Nicky Rackard Cup

Well done to the Sligo hurling team who won the Nicky Rackard Cup when they beat Armagh in an exciting game in Croke Park and to the lads from West Sligo, who were on the team: James Weir (Captain), Rory McHugh, Andrew Kilcullen, Mikey Gordon, Donal Hanley and Seán Hallinan.

There was great excitement in Dromore West Community Centre on Monday evening last when a large crowd welcomed the Sligo Hurlers and the Nicky Rackard Cup to Dromore West.

9 Peaks, 9 Weeks, 9 Years Old!

Carwyn Wood is nine years old pupil in Rathlee National School and wants to raise money for his school over the summer holidays to resurface the playing yard which is rough and gravelly. He has decided to climb nine of the highest mountains in Connaught over his nine-week summer holidays. His challenge is called '9 Peaks, 9 Weeks, 9 Years Old. It is a 5600 vertical meter challenge. Windmill Players AGM

Windmill Players, Dromore West held their annual general meeting recently in the McGee Hall and the following officers were re-elected:chairperson Joe Burns, secretary Jason Kilgannon, Joint treasurers Katie Kilgannon and Margaret Mairead Ní Ghabhann. Their PRO Geraldine McCloat did not seek re-election and is thanked for the great service she has given Windmill Players over the years as PRO Maeve Broderick is now the new PRO.

The late Denis Duffy

The death has taken place of Denis Duffy, Ennis, Co. Clare and formerly of Cabra, Rathlee. Burial took place in Ennis. Sympathy is extended to his wife, son, daughters, brothers, sisters, inlaws and cousins.

Died in USA

The death has taken place in New Jersey USA of Jackie Stokell, daughter of the late Kathleen Kennedy, Caltra, Culleens.

Rathlee NS green flag

Congratulations to the pupils from Rathlee National School, who received their seventh Green Flag 'Global Citizenship/Energy'.

Exhibition of paintings

An exhibition of paintings by the day centre group in collaboration with visual artist, Amy McGovern, is now on show in the reception area of Easkey Health Centre. The exhibition takes inspiration from the history of the 'Sea Blues', Easkey GAA team and its role within the community. This project was funded by Creative Ireland and Sligo County Council.

Wedding bells

Congratulations to Con Rooney a Teacher of Technical Graphics in Jesus and Mary Secondary School Enniscrone, on his marriage to Evannah Moffatt daughter of Dr Michael and Janet Moffatt Ballina. The Wedding Ceremony took place in St Agatha's Church, Donegal and the reception was held in Harvey's Point Donegal. We wish the young couple a long and happy life together.


There was no winner of the €4,200 jackpot when the blotto draw took in Hopkins's bar last weekend. Tidy Towns

The Tidy Towns competition judges will be coming to Enniscrone within the next few weeks. They will arrive unannounced to do an inspection of the whole town. Please do your best to have your property and locality looking well for them. Thanks to all who contributed to our recent church gate collection.

Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA

Junior B Our Junior B footballers kept their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the league alive when they overcame the challenge of Castleconnor at Quigabar last Friday evening. 3-6 to 1-7 ahead at half time, our lads ended as 3-11 to 1-12 winners. They play Coolera/Strandhill away next weekend at the time of writing a time and date had yet to be confirmed.

ur under-14s are set for a very busy week. On Monday evening (June 24) they take on Shamrock Gaels in the B League semi-final in Quigabar from 7 p.m. Then, from Friday, they will play host to St Manchan's Gaels of Offaly for this year's Féile.

The action begins in Quigabar on Friday evening, when our lads open their campaign against Butlersbridge of Cavan at 5.30 p.m. Then immediately after that at 6.15 p.m., they take on Curry. On Saturday morning, they play their final group game against St Manchan's Gaels, and after that the competition moves to the knockout stages. Best of luck to the team and management; we as clubs look forward to welcoming St Manchan's Gaels to the parish for the weekend.

Our under-12 footballers host Castleconnor on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in Quigabar.

Our under-six GAA nursery program continues every Monday from 6.15 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the indoor astroturf in Quigabar. This is for boys and girls born in 2013 and 2014. Kids are asked to wear appropriate gear and bring bottle of water.

COUNTY SCENE - Two second half goals from Gavin Duffy helped Sligo get the better of Roscommon in last Fridays Connacht Minor Championship match on a score line of 2-15 to 4-7 at Markievicz Park. Oisin Hynes also contributed a point, as Sligo now progress to take on Mayo in the provincial semi-final this Wednesday (June 26) at 7.30 p.m. in McHale Park, Castlebar.

Cemetery Mass

The annual Mass for the deceased interred in the local Skreen Cemetery will be held weather permitting in St Mary's Cemetery, Skreen on Sunday, July 7, at 11 a.m. In preparation for these Masses everyone is asked to tidy up their own family graves.

Community Centre

Skreen-Dromard Community Centre will hold a Seán Davis Four Day Outdoor Fun Soccer Academy on their Pitch there from Monday, July 15, to Thursday, July 18, This Soccer event will run daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to boys and girls aged Five to Seventeen years.
