Achonry-Mullinabreena: Community Enhancement - The final works have taken place on the picnic area at Lavagh car park and it really enhances the space. The walkway on Knocknashee is the next project and works here have started in recent weeks by the council on the parking area. Lupins remain for sale at €2 per pot.

Park Sign Sponsors

Coolaney-Mullinabreena GAA has relaunched their appeal for new pitch side sign sponsors at Nace O'Dowd Park. There has been an incredible response so far from businesses wishing to support the facility. The park offers an excellent promotional site for businesses due to its location on the N17 and because of all the various groups who use the facility. The local 25 card game takes a summer break now and will resume in September.

Set dancing

set dancing continues in St Nathy's Hall every ‪Thursday at 8.30 p.m.‬. Junior sets are ‪from 7.45 p.m. till 8.30 p.m.‬ and proving really popular in recent weeks.

Feile 2019

We are delighted to announce that Castleconnor will be a host venue for 2019 Féile Peile na nÓg. The event takes place the weekend June 28 to June 30. Teams from every county in Ireland as well as overseas are invited to take part and one will be assigned to us. Castleconnor will enter a team into the competition and will be comprised of under-14 and under-12 boys.

We now need volunteers to make this a success, especially host families who will be asked to house two kids or coaches from the visiting team.

As parents and Gaels, please consider volunteering for this and help us make this a fabulous weekend to remember for all our community and especially our kids.

Cloonacool

The Mill Café

The new community café will continue on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays: opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. The Mill Community Café is a service run totally by volunteers, who are paid in good fun and really good cake and coffee. If you can offer your time to join our volunteer rota, we'd love to hear from you - could you commit to one day a month, or a fortnight?

Community Park draw

The Community Park lotto draw for May took place in Brennan's on Saturday night. The numbers drawn were 2, 3, 8 and 18. There was no winner of the €3,000 jackpot. Congratulations to Gerard Carty and Thomas Fitzgerald, who matched three numbers and share €200. Next month's jackpot will be worth €3,100 many thanks for your continued support.

Collection thanks

The recent church gate collection at Cloonacool church for North West Hospice raised €249.05. NWH expressed their heartfelt thanks for the contribution.

Sheep Festival

As part of the new community initiative process, The Cloonacool Sheep Festival is earmarked for September 21 next. The one-day event will highlight the sheep tradition of the parish and will include a day section filled with exhibitions and activities. The festival will finish off with a gala festival dance in the community centre in the safe hands of John Hogan and his band from Co Offaly. Please keep the date free and make sure to invite friends when the times arrives.

Card game

The Cloonacool card game is 9 p.m. on Mondays. This start time is for the summer season.

Environment Group

If you would like to join the local environmental group then email Cloonacoolevironmentalgroup@gmail.com and let them know, they're happy to welcome new members any time.

Old photographs/local history

The New Heritage group in the parish are in the process of collecting old photographs and local history. This collection will form the basis of a future exhibition and/or publication. Anyone interested in providing either photographs or stories can email the group on cloonacoolheritage@gmail.com.

Music Club

Cloonacool Music Club takes place on Thursday at Brennan's Bar from 10 p.m. Come along for a great night of music and singing. There will be a bus available to collect and leave home on Thursday nights for music club. Pick up between 9: 30 and 10 p.m., and then leaving Cloonacool after the food. Please ring 071 9185037 for further information and to book your seat. There will be a minimal charge for the bus.

Curry-Moylough

DVD launch

Moylough 1997, a DVD featuring events and activities in the Moylough area during the year 1997 will be launched in the Moylough Heritage Centre on Friday, June 14, at 8.30 p.m.

Proceeds will go to Áine Durkin's Uganda Hospital Fund. Áine, from Cashel is going to Uganda in July as part of a UCD Student Volunteer Group which will provide assistance and training to a hospital in Uganda.

Congratulations Martin

Congratulations to new County Councillor Martin Connolly, his wife Stephanie and family on his election to Sligo County Council. After a late night count celebrations swung into action with bonfires blazing around Powelsboro where a large crowd of supporters turned out. This was a major achievement for a first time candidate.

The monthly meeting of Dromore west community council will be held on tonight Tuesday, June 4, at 8 p.m. in the community centre.

Rathlee NS Mid-summer Run/Walk

Rathlee National School will hold their annual Mid-summer Run/Walk 5K and 10k on Sunday, June 9, at 3 p.m. followed by a barbecue and raffle in Brownes, Pullaheeney where the run will start.

Delia Dolphin r.i.p.

The death has taken place of Delia Dolphin, Dunneill, Dromore West. Her requiem Mass was celebrates in the Church of our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Dromore west followed by burial in Churchill Cemetry. Sympathy is extended to her family and relatives.

Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA

Our Intermediate footballers collected two points in their latest league fixture, overcoming the challenge of Bunninadden at a blustery Quigabar on Sunday last on a scoreline of 3-10 to 2-8. Ahead by 2-6 to 1-6 at the break, our lads established a 3-8 to 1-6 lead midway through the second half and despite a late Bunninadden goal, held out for an important win. Best wishes to the Bunninadden midfielder who sustained an injury at the end of the match. Our lads take on St John's next Sunday at 2 p.m. in Carraroe in the next round.

Our Junior B team enters the competitive fray for the first time this year when they host Owenmore Gaels next Friday evening, May 31, at 7.30 p.m. in Quigabar in the opening round of the league. Good luck to the players and management.

The Enniscrone-Kilglass/Easkey minor footballers have no game till July due to the state exams taking place in the coming weeks.

Our under-16s take on Castleconnor on Monday evening, May 27, in the Division Two shield semi-final from 7 p.m. in Quigabar. Good luck lads. Well done to our under-14 footballers on posting a 6-16 to 3-8 win over Castleconnor last Thursday. Their next match the last in the round robin section is at home to Calry/St Joseph's on June 6.

The under-12 boys have a home outing against Shamrock Gaels on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in Quigabar.

Commiserations to Gavin Duffy, Oisin Hynes and Michael Duffy on the Sligo minors' narrow loss to Galway (0-15 to 1-10) at Tuam Stadium in the Connacht MFC last Friday. They play Mayo on Friday evening next at 7.30 p.m. At under-20 level, Eoin Hallinan was part of the Sligo squad that overcame the challenge of Leitrim midweek they play Longford in the next round of the development league.

Skreen-Dromard Community Centre will hold a Seán Davis Four Day Outdoor Fun Soccer Academy on their Pitch there from Monday, July 15, to Thursday, July 18, This soccer event will run daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to boys and girls aged five to 17 years. The cost of the four-day event is €55 with discount for additional family siblings.
