Achonry-Mullinabreena: Thank you to Cloonacool Players for their wonderful performance of 'I do not like thee Dr Fell' held in St Nathy's Hall recently. Best wishes to the group on the national drama circuit over the coming weeks. It was great to see drama back in the hall after a long absence. Thanks to all who helped out with the event.

Sligo Ploughing

The 2019 Sligo Ploughing Championship will take place on the farm of Francis and John Brennan, Chaffpool on Bank Holiday Monday, March 18, Go along to enjoy the ploughing along with side attractiins such as dog show, vintage display, horses, donkeys and much more.

Community Enhancement

The local group have been busy of late with works continuing on the back of grant money received in 2017. Car park lighting and a picnic area at Lavagh along with information signs at key historical sites in the area are great additions to the parish. Well done to the committee on all the hard work. Next meeting is later in March.

Men's Shed

A conversation has been started locally about the possibility of starting up a Man's Shed group. Anyone interested can contact the local Community Enhancement Group.

Spring Clean

The National spring clean initiative will be held again this year and the local group will organise a litter pick for the week Friday, March 15, to Friday, March 24, All help appreciated. Your local townland reps will be in touch. Bags and pickers will be provided.

25 Card Game

The popular 25 card game continues every Friday in St Nathy's Hall at 8.30 p.m. New players are always welcome.

The Sound of Music

St Brigid's Hall is alive with the Sound of music as music and singing rehearsals are well under way under the musical direction of Andy Flynn, with Karen McKim, Cloonacool, in the lead role as Maria Rainer and Frank Brennan in the role of Captain Von Trapp. The show is scheduled to open on Friday, March 29, with successive performances on 30th, March 31 and three, fourth, April 5 and six. Tickets for the production are now available from Nora Brennan (Nathy's), Teeling St., tel no: 071 9185116. All tickets cost €20 but admission for children under-12 is €10 and is refundable at the door on the night of the performance. There are still a few 'walk on' parts available. North Connaught College

The North Connaught College, Tubbercurry is hosting an open evening on Thursday, March 7, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for a range of PLC courses. From September there will also be a new course in Equine Studies and Horsemanship. Teachers, Guidance Counsellor, Student Support Tutor and current students will be available to deal with any queries or questions. They also have links with GMIT and St Angela's. Irish Oral Revision Course

There will be a Leaving Cert Irish Oral Revision Course on Saturday, March 23, 10 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. in Banada. Junior and Leaving cert Irish courses will be from July 22 to July 26 and July 29 to August 2 in Banada, contact Siobhán at 087 4510572.

Indoor Country Market

Drummartin Indoor Country Market (9km from Tubbercurry out on the Ballina Road besides Joe Dan's Pub) continues from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. every Saturday. Along with the usual great selection of local produce and crafts they are also introducing 'zero waste' rice, oats and flour - bring your own container and pay by weight. Why not take a seat in the coffee shop and enjoy some fabulous home made cake while you are here.

Garda Community Information Centre open in the Depot, Back Line, Dromahair on Mondays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. General Garda Services and information will be provided. St Patrick's Day parade

On March 17 the village will host its 17th St Patrick's Day parade. This would not be possible without the volunteers and participants in the village and surrounding townlands.

We the committee would like to thank all those people and everyone who supports the bucket collection which takes place on the same day for two hours. The funds raised from this collection along with all entry fees are vital to cover the costs to run the parade each year.

Looking forward to your continued support and seeing all those happy faces again this year.


Sing Together Choral Group

The Sing Together choral group has resumed at the Bee Park Community Centre Manorhamilton on Monday nights from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The group members learn songs by ear with friendly supportive people. Led by Sarah Garden, the group is perfect if you love singing but wouldn't dream of singing in public.

All, who join the group build confidence, meet new people, play with their own voices, develop technique, try harmonies, breath and feel fabulous. All genres of songs are sung.

Kilty Drama Festival

The Kiltyclogher Drama Festival continues tonight (Tuesday) at 8.30 p.m. in the community centre with the ever popular Corn Mill Theatre Group, who stage a Dermot Healy play 'On Broken Wing.'.

The Kilty Festival on Wednesday night will see the Newtownstewart Theatre Company in John B Keane's tragic play, 'Sive.' On Thursday night the festival will have ever popular Ballyshannon Drama Society present one of Oscar Wilde's most renowned comedies, 'The Importance of Being Ernest.'.

A new group from Wexford, the Bunclody/Kilmshall Drama Group will stage 'Moonglow' by Kim Carney on Friday night. The Kiltyclogher Drama Festival closes on Saturday night with Ballybofey's Butt Drama Circle presenting a Frank McGuinness festival 'Someone Who'll Watch Over Me.'.

College open evening

North Connaught College Tubbercurry is hosting an open evening on this Thursday, March 7, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for a range of PLC courses.

Largy NS open day

Largy National School will stage an open day on Wednesday afternoon, March 13, from 1.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. when parents and guardians, who are considering enrolling a child in the next school year's Junior Infant class, are invited to drop in to the school.

During Largy National School's open day, parents and guardians of September 2019 enrolling children will have a chance to meet the staff, look around the school, view the school's facilities and see some of the work done by the school's students. Also enrolment application forms can be completed on the day.

25 Card Game

The Progressive 25 Card Game (s) take place each Friday in Newtownmanor Hall at 9 p.m. All card players are welcome and we look forward to new members coming along.

Bingo continues on Monday (s), in the function room of the Blue Devon, Dromahair at 9 p.m. For those of you who are not regulars, it is a great social occasion, as well a fun opportunity to experience the thrill and frustration of getting/not getting the numbers you need. All lines €30, except games 5 and 10, which are €50, all full houses €100 and last game €200. So why not come along and support your local bingo. Who knows you might be lucky.

On Thursday, March 14, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Taunagh National School will host an open day. There will be an opportunity to tour our school, meet the teachers, chat to the Parent Association and enquire about enrolment. The pupils will also demonstrate a number of science experiments and there will be refreshments available. A warm welcome is extended to everyone in the wider community to visit the school on this day.

Riverstown Community Games Swimming will take place in Sligo Sports Complex on Saturday, March 16, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Swimmers should be pool-side at 6.45 p.m. Riverstown Community Games Athletics Finals will take place on Sunday, May 19, in Riverstown Community Park. The day's events will start with a Fancy dress parade leaving Homeland Store in Riverstown at 1.15 p.m. This will be followed by athletics finals in Community Park at 2 p.m. For further information on any Community Games event call 086 8258525.

Ready, steady, cook

Sligo Folk Park are organising a Ready, Steady, Cook, fundraiser with Chef John Kelly, from the Riverbank Restaurant and Chef Sham from the Cottage, Jamestown in Castledargan Hotel on Thursday, March 21, at 8 p.m.

The two chefs will be assisted by Surprise Guests. Doors open at 7.15 p.m. and MC for the night will be Paul Quinn of Virgin Media TV Local food and crafts exhibits on the night.
