Memorial Honda Run

Knocknashee Run will take place on Sunday, July 24, in Memory of Vinny Healy and in support of Sligo Hospital Oncology Unit Trust and Maintenance of community defibrillator. Start and Finishing point located at the Knocknashee Community Hub. Sligo Field Club will host a field trip in Lavagh and Tubbercurry this Saturday, July 16, meeting at Aurivo, Achonry at midday Martin Timoney will lead this field trip focusing on this diverse landscape which features an inauguration mound, horizontal mill site, castle, crannóg, moated site, cauldron and more. Meeting at Aurivo, Achonry at midday.

Own transport necessary. This is a full afternoon, so a packed lunch is advisable.



There was no winner of the Ballymote lotto jackpot on July 3 Numbers drawn were 7, 12, 13 and 15. There was no match-three winner, there were four lucky-dip winners of €25, names of winners displayed locally. The jackpot now stands at €8,200. Ballymote Family Resource Centre

A drop-in IT clinic will be starting at Ballymote FRC. Anyone needing help with computers, tablets, smartphones, or laptops can drop in to the centre on Monday from 3.30 p.m. to 4.45 p.m. or Thursday 10 a.m. to midday. Call 071 9197818 for more information.

Safetalk is a half-day in person training programme that prepares participants to recognise and engage with people who may be having suicidal thoughts. Photo contest

Ballymote Tidy Towns are running a photo competition which will run each month. The competition will have a different theme every month. July’s theme is ‘Summertime in Ballymote’. You can upload your photo to the Ballymote Tidy Towns and Tourism Ltd Facebook page, please feel free to add a title. The photo that gets the most likes wins and in the event of a tie admin will select the winner. The winning photo will feature on Ballymote Tidy Towns and Tourism Ltd Facebook page for the following month.

Informal Junior Music Session every Saturday night in July 16, 23 and 30 at 8.30 p.m. hosted by Fiona Doherty at the Coleman Music Centre in Gurteen, Co. Sligo. A new addition to the location is a tea or coffee cart provided by Get Grounded Coffee Cart. This is a very relaxing location to meet friends and enjoy a tea or coffee Scones etc in the beautiful surroundings of Lough Gill and Holywell.

Exercise Group in Carraroe

Our chair exercise sessions take place each Thursday at 11 a.m. in Carraroe Community Centre. This programme is professionally led by Arita Loughlin for one hour. Everyone is welcome and all COVID safety procedures are observed. Grow Mental Health

If you are struggling with anxiety or depression, fearful or lonely and are at a loss to know how to tackle your problems, Grow may have the answer. Grow is a community of people drawn together by firsthand experiences of mental health difficulties.

Having found practical ways of helping each other recover from mental health challenges we developed the Grow programme.

Our meetings are strictly confidential, anonymous, non-denominational and open to all. Groups are small and run by our own members, with quality leadership training provided. Sligo Town Bus Service

Cadra continues to campaign to have the Sligo Town Bus Service restored to Carraroe Retail Park via Cairns Hill, Lakeview, Carraroe Community Centre serving a population of 5,000 people. This will allow Carraroe residents avail of a park and ride service to Sligo Town. The same service should be provided to Calry, Druncliffe/Rathcormack where public car parks exist and reduce the use of cars and parking in Town Centre.

Active Retirement

The local Active Retirement Association has now ceased activities for the months of July and August. The month of June has been a memorable one with a number of highlights as well as our usual programme eg – A Walk in the Forest Trail, followed by refreshments in Murphy’s Hotel. Our annual organised Holiday when we had a most enjoyable sunny six days in Co Clare visiting the Burren, Inisheer, Loop Head, Kilrush, Kilkee and Moher Cliffs, etc., plus our participation in the recent Senior Sportsfest in Sligo and our Kurling team taking home the Indoor Kurling Perpetual Cup. Congratulations to them.

Activities will renew again in September when we hope that many new members will join us.

Active Retirement Associations cater for all retired people from the age of 55 upward. Its range of social, mental and physical activities are so important for continuing to live life to the full. Be part of your local community ARA.
