Raising funds for Stroke Association in honour of their granny

The family of a Sligo woman who passed away following a stroke cycled from Birmingham to Sligo in her memory, raising almost €3,000 for the Stroke Association.

Pauline Leyden (née Egan) passed away in August 2016 after a stroke.

She was born in Sligo and used to live in 79 Garavogue Villas however moved over to Birmingham when she was young to raise a family with her husband Maurice Leyden of St Joseph's Terrace. They had five children: John, Margaret, Jackie, Karen and Maurice Jr., twelve Grandchildren and four great-Grandchildren.

Dan Biddle, Pauline's eldest grandson came up with ideas to raise money for the Stroke Association. So Dan and Adam Biddle, Pauline's grandchildren decided to cycle all the way from Birmingham to Sligo to raise money. They did this with the help of their friend John Mallon and their dad, Dave Biddle who led the route in a van. They have raised over They've raised almost €2,900 (£2,414) as of now and they're still accepting donations through a JustGiving page.

The cycle took place on April 14th, and the boys were met at the finish line on April 17th by family members.
