Men's shed continue to contribute to local community
Since October 2016 Sligo Men's Shed Association has been reinvigorated by a change of management resulting in the members becoming more involved in a wide range of activities.
For example, members have done courses in basket-weaving, cookery, wood-turning, archery, as well as promoting health by getting involved in gardening both in our polytunnel and our vegetable plot. Members have also contributed their expertise to community causes, such as erecting and dismantling the crib for the cathedral every Christmas, constructing props for "Our Show" at the Avalon Centre, helping with Tidy Towns, restoring old seats to provide Buddy Benches for schools, and occasionally assisting people in the community with difficult tasks, such as clearing out gardens, or touch-up painting jobs.
By way of keeping fit the group also has a weekly weigh-in and walk group, and also encourage growing and consuming their own vegetables.
Recently the Sligo Men's Shed have started down a musical path with weekly guitar lessons, and some members have joined the Sligo Volunteer Centre's choir for the upcoming performance in the Hawkswell in November.
The group will soon be starting a mosaics project and a creative writing project.
