Solar powered treat
It stayed dry and mild as Dromore West was the venue for a solar powered cinema experience thanks to Airtricity.
The Greatest Showman (starring Hugh Jackman) was the feature event which was precended by a short video about how SSE Airtricity is involved with projects in the local West Sligo community.
Being solar powered meant there was no generator, no noise and most importantly no pollution.
The short video featured The Windmill Players, the Dromore West branch of the Mayo Beekeepers and St. Farnan's Community Park.
Through its Community Fund, SSE Airtricity provides annual funding to communities close to its 29 wind farms.
Through investment received from the fund, the Windmill Players have invested over €7,000 in new lighting equipment and fire-resistant curtains; over €33,000 has been awarded to the Community Park in St. Farnan's helping to provide insulation, heating controls, solar panels, roof and gutter repairs and LED lighting as well as the installation of outdoor track lights which have proved hugely popular with local runners and walkers.
The Dromore West branch of the Mayo Beekeepers care for the bees at the SSE Airtricity Dunneill Wind Farm and to date has received €5,700. These funds have been used to improve the Beekeepers Library in Dromore West, fund education programmes for local Beekeepers, as well as support workshops held in the local primary school.
