Sligo appearance for Republic of Loose
Letting loose on the music scene, the aptly named band, Republic of Loose, will play the Left Bank on Thursday week, May 25.
In 2001, a group of young, hungry and extremely gifted new members known as the Republic of Loose began to refine their sound into the sinuous and beautiful conflation of styles that it has now become.
Brez had learned to play guitar with Dave Pyro many years before, jamming blues and soul while drinking whiskey, playing with a Stones like synergy.
Brez brought in his compadre Deco on keys, while Coz Noleon, an old school friend of lead vocals, Michael Pyro, brought a fiery rock energy on drums.
Benjamin Loose brought a Kabbalistic understanding of the dangerous properties of bass.
They began to rehearse constantly, cannibalising such influences as the Rolling Stones, Howlin’ Wolf, Al Green, James Brown, Prince, Michael Jackson and Bobby Brown.
And their debut album “This is the Tomb of the Juice” was released in 2004.
Emerging as the most exciting live act in the country, they quickly garnered a sizeable and loyal fan base, with their mesmerising live performances leading to tour support with the Neville Brothers, the Thrills, the Zutons, the Scissor Sisters, Alabama 3, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Snow Patrol, The Roots, Dilated Peoples, as well as festival appearances at Glastonbury, T in the park, the Fleadh, Oxygen and the Transmusicale, Nice Jazz and Furia Sound festivals in France.
They have also completed successful headline tours in the UK and Ireland and are currently recording material for their second album.
Their single "Comeback Girl" was released in July last year and became a huge radio hit, while "You Know It", released in October and has become an even bigger hit.
