Shane Filan is back at what he does best, singing and recording.

He's just announced a new record deal, ironically on the same day there was a firesale of his heavily indebted property in Sligo.

As the hammer fell on two properties at an auction in The Sligo Park Hotel, Shane revealed he had signed his first solo deal.

He and his family left Sligo for England in late 2011 and it has since emerged he owes in the region of €23m.

The debts arose after a gamble in the property market failed to pay off.

His palatial home at Carraroe is on the market for €900,000.

However Shane, who could emerge from bankruptcy in England in June, is focusing on his new solo career.

"I've been writing and recording songs over the past few months both in the UK and USA."

He said it had been an amazing experience and he was so excited for his fans to hear the new songs.

Shane described the past 12 months as being very tough at times.

"If nothing else it proved to me that family, health and happiness are the most important things in life.

"Now my focus is on my music and solo career. Singing is all I want to do."

He has signed a deal with London Records and will be releasing his first single this summer.

A debut album will follow later in the year.

He described the deal as an amazing opportunity.

"I am going to work as hard as I have ever worked to make this album a success."

Shane said the next chapter in his life started now and asked his fans to join him on this journey.

He said he couldn't thanks his fans enough for the love and support given him, especially over the past year.

"I'll never forget it," he said.
