In brief

Ballygawley Festival: Mike Denver is among the acts performing at the upcoming Ballygawley Festival which is running from July 19th to the 21st.

The country music festival is being organised to raise funds for the local Community Park.

It is hoped the festival will be a success which will be run annually.

Local councillor Thomas Walsh said the 20 strong committee are busy preparing for the three-day festival which sees Jim Devine play the opening night, Johnny Brady entertaining crowds on Saturday night and Denver taking to the stage on Sunday.

"We've had some very good feedback so far, there's a knock-on affect with accommodation already booked up," said Cllr Walsh. Profits from the festival will go towards clearing the debt of the Community Park with a huge voluntary effort in running the upcoming festival.

Coolaney Run/Walk

The annual Coolaney 5km Run will take place on Friday, July 19th. This chip-timed event is growing every year and is very popular. There is also a new 4km walk. The run starts at 7:30pm and the walk begins at 7:40pm. Registration from 6pm in the Coolaney Community Centre.

The event is being organised by the Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAA club but the proceeds this year will be split in half between the club and the new Coolaney astroturf project. It's hoped there will be a big response this year given the co-operative nature of the event.

Refreshments will be served afterwards. Contact Gerry Lee on 086 8282263 for more details.
