Hawk's Well Theatre plans move on to next stage
The proposed redevelopment of the Hawk's Well theatre has taken a step forward when the works went to tender for design stage.
This involves the appointment of an assigned certifier to design, procure and administer the renovation, extension and construction of the theatre front of house areas. Considerable interest has already been shown in the redevelopment of the theatre located at Temple Street, Sligo.
"This is the first step of redevelopment project which I have been working on as part of the board of Hawkswell for the past five years," said councillor Sinead Maguire. She added that the redevelopment would include a new entrance for all patrons including improved disability access which hereto meant patrons only had wheelchair access around the back and side of the building - and a new hearing loop system for those with hearing difficulties.
The cost of the works is estimated to be in the region of €1.27 million. Matching grant aid has been committed from the Department of Arts and Sligo LEADER.
