Calling all our local artists to Tubbercurry Community Library

A unique Art Exhibition will take place from March 6th to 10th next at Tubbercurry Community Library.

The exhibition, organised by the Western Drama Festival, will run under the theme, 'The Next Chapter' and is designed to highlight creativity in the South Sligo Community and is run in partnership with Tubbercurry Community Library,

Spokeswoman Eileen Davey says: "We invite all artists with an interest in exhibiting.

"A sub-committee of the Western Drama Festival (WDF) in association with Sligo County Library is organising the Exhibition as a fringe event to run alongside this year's drama festival.

"This particular festival celebrates 75 years of the WDF. The exhibition will take place at the Tubbercurry Community Library and the opening will be on Tuesday night March 6 at 6pm.

"The renowned artist Nick Miller will be our special guest on this very special occasion to launch this inspirational exhibition to celebrate and showcase creativity in our community."

Nick's list of accolades includes winning the inaugural Hennessy Portrait Prize at the National Gallery of Ireland and in 2017 he was guest curator for the RDS Visual Art Awards exhibition.

The committee has made a short list of people who they would like to participate in the exhibition. This specially invited group will form the main body of work for the exhibition. The exhibition however, is open to all with an interest in exhibiting.

Artists are being asked to create an original piece of work under the theme, 'The Next Chapter'.

Eileen continues: "We are inviting all sorts of creative people to participate; established artists and craftspeople as well offering a public invitation to completely new people with special or indeed undiscovered talents and skills. We expect to get a very dynamic mix of exhibits.

"In that regard, anyone wishing to participate should make contact with us as soon as possible on 086 8066662 for further information."

Eileen concludes: "Further information is available to answer some questions people might have at this early stage and to provide guidelines for each participant.

"No art form is excluded and we welcome exhibits both large and small. In fact, we have a particular need for a small number of large exhibits.

"If you have a particular artistic talent, please consider taking part in the exhibition."
