Its set to heat up in Sligo this month as local band, the Burning Shades have been picked to represent the county in RTÉs upcoming 2fm 2moro 2our.

Formed just under a year ago, Burning Shades were picked from a host of Sligo bands to support Messiah J and The Expert, Giveamanakick and The Flaws on Tuesday, May 22 in The Left Bank, which is to be presented by RTE 2fm DJ Jenny Huston.

With the Sligo leg sponsored by the Radisson SAS, the concert is a continued effort by RTÉ 2fm to discover and promote new Irish talent.

The Shades came together by their mutual love for Mogwai, Foo Fighters and Weezer in April last year and began practising intensely, developing a melodic and original sound. In the summer of 2006 they embarked on a self-promoted, three month tour of Boston.

The tour was a success as the band found themselves playing to large audiences and progressing musically. During the tour, the Shades’ squeezed in as many radio appearances as possible and recorded a four track demo in New Alliance Studios, Boston. Since returning to Sligo in October last year, the band have been busy working on home recordings and playing live whenever and wherever possible.

“We were absolutely delighted to have been chosen for the tour and can’t wait to play the gig with such a diverse bunch of bands,” said the Shades.

Tickets for the event, which is free, are now available from the RTÉ 2fm website, www.rte.ie/2fm.
