Wexford players score in London
LONDON-BASED Father Murphy's hurling team comprising of players from Wexford clubs and other counties defeated South London team Thomas McCurtain's to win the delayed 2013 Hurling League in Ruislip last Sunday.
The first half Fr Murphys played against the wind. It took a few minutes for the teams to settle and register a score. Stephen Barden secured the first point for Murphy's followed two minutes later with another point. Thomas McCurtains replied very quickly with two point to equalise with a point for point. The first major score came 15 minutes into the game as Stephen Barden took a 30 yard sole run to place the ball into the back of the net. Both teams traded point for point with several wides, however,Murphys went into half time score with a three point lead.
In the second half Murphy's played with the breeze at their back starting off with a good point from a well taken score Matt Holohan from a free. Barden swiftly followed with another point to give Murphy's a comfortable lead. Father Murphy's were crowned 2013 League winner with a score line of Fr Murphys 2-11 and Thomas McCurtains 2-10.
