Under-19s warm up with good win
THE WEXFORD Youths Under-19s warmed up for their F.A.I. League of Ireland Cup semi-final tonight (Tuesday) when they defeated Galway United 2-1 at Ferrycarrig Park in a league game on Friday night last.
With five of the starting eleven from their quarter-final win over Drogheda United sitting on the bench, it was a chance for others to play their way into the semi-final team. A decent performance on the night has made the task of picking the team all the more difficult.
Chris Fenner scored both goals, the first early in the firsthalf and the second in the 70th minute when he converted a penalty after top scorer Danny Fitzpatrick was taken down.
The semi-final is a massive game for the club, in Tolka Park tonight at 8 p.m. against Shelbourne. Cork City await the winners in the final.
The starting team will be picked from the following squad: Brandon O'Callaghan, Shane Sinnott, Rajiv Kumar, Mark Donoghue, Mark McManus, Cian Boggan, Ryan Delaney, Gary Delaney, Dale Scallan, Nevin Rossiter, Conor Maher, Steven Kehoe, James Shiggins, Tony Smith, Darryl Power, Donal Shanley, Jason McHugh, Ben Duffy, Chris Fenner, Maurice Hayes, Paul Devereux, Danny Fitzpatrick.
The Wexford Youths are bred for knockout cup football, so here's to them proving it tonight. And manager Mick Wallace has always loved Tolka Park.
