Leaders Longford in command
LEADERS LONGFORD Town turned their first-half dominance into goals as they went on to hand out a 3-1 defeat to Wexford Youths in their Division 1 game at Flancare Park on Saturday last.
Three goals in the first-half set Longford Town up for this victory as they totally dominated the visitors.
The win pushes the home side nine points clear at the top, while Wexford on 19 points missed out on an opportunity to move into second spot.
While Longford's return to the Premier Division is turning into something of a procession, the battle for second spot will have many twists and turns along the way.
Just one point separates second-placed Mervue and the Youths who are now fifth in a mid-table position.
Willie Tyrrell opened the scoring for the home side before a brace from David O'Sullivan, bringing his season's tally to 17, left them with a comfortable 3-0 interval lead, with all three goals coming inside the first half hour.
While Joey Mulcahy managed to pull a goal back in the second-half, the Youths never looked like getting anything out of this game.
Wexford Youths: Graham Doyle, Craig McCabe, Gary Delaney, Jamie Carr (C.J. Browne, 74), James Dermody, Shane Nolan, Joey Mulcahy, Caolan O'Gorman (Dean Broaders, 78), Brian Nolan, Aidan Keenan, Graham Delaney (Daryl Power, 65).
