Leah triumphs for Leinster in Mayo
St Michael's Boxing Club was well represented recently when their young boxer Leah Richardson boxed for Leinster as part of their female development squad.
The rising Irish boxing star featured in a provincial contest against Connaught in Swinford, County Mayo. Leah boxed Michaela Murphy, winning on a split decision (2-1). On top of this she also won Best Away Boxer for the Leinster team.
St Michael's Boxing Club spokesman Kevin Blanche said: 'Leah is one of the rising stars in a growing female dominant sport and her success in Mayo is another great achievement as the skill and level of female boxing is peaking all the time. To even be considered as a part of the squad is a decent achievement in itself.'
Mr Blanche said Leah's win will give her great confidence for the rest of the season with both Leinster and Irish Championships beckoning in the upcoming months. 'Hopefully she can add to her Irish title that she won back in 2014 and continue to bring success to St Michael's Boxing Club.'
Her club mates Leona Berry and Jessica Murphy also achieved great success recently in the Michael Andrews Memorial in Dublin.
