Sun sets on successful Culture Night

Esther Hayden

Culture vultures flocked to New Ross recently to enjoy the array of events organised in the district to celebrate Culture Night.

The New Ross and District Pipe Band performed a rousing concert in New Ross Library Park which showcased the musical talents of the band.

At Hook Lighthouse Culture Night was celebrated with a Harvest Moon celebration where visitors enjoyed watching the sun setting and the harvest moon rising over Hook Peninsula beneath the protective beam of the world's oldest intact operational lighthouse.

The addition of fire-pits on the lighthouse lawns ensured everyone was nice and cosy as they enjoyed treats from the Hook Lighthouse barbecue, some Hook Pilsner and the brand new Hook beers as well as a harvest brew from Arthurstown Brewing Company, all of which were brewed from the harvesting of locally grown malted barley.

Acclaimed musicians Brendan Keane, Jimi Cullen and Shane Kenny entertained those present as did the The Hooks and Crookes sea shanty singers who performed some favourite sea faring songs. The evening also featured a photography competition.

The New Ross Singers took to the stage at the Dunbrody Visitor Centre under the direction of Connie Tantrum.
