The icy cold waters of Duncannon Beach didn't deter a group of swimmers from raising money for the Irish Kidney Association.

Organised by Duncannon FC the annual New Year's Day swim raises money for a different charity each year and this year the club chose the Irish Kidney Association. Treasurer Fintan White said the IKA had been chosen to honour club member Richard Dwyer who died during the year.

'We had a good turnout on the day', said Fintan.

'There were about 20 people in the water in total, a mix of locals, players and people who holiday in Duncannon. Every year there is a great atmosphere and this year was no different. Although it was cold it was fine and bright and everyone was in good spirits.

'The swim is a great way to kick start the new year.'

The final tally hasn't been determined yet and the money will be presented to the IKA in the coming weeks.
