Launch of poetry collection in Irish
The bi-lingual launch of County Wexford writer Mary O' Brien's sixth poetry collection Ré na n-Úll took place recently.
The collection which was supported by Wexford County Council's Arts Department through the Artlinks Bursary Scheme, was officially launched by the local historian and author Briain Ó Cléirigh.
Published by Coiscéim, Dublin, the book includes poems already featured in Irish language journals and competitions as well as a selection in celebration of the rich mix of languages found in County Wexford, including the Yola dialect.
There are poems reflecting on the Irish words still used in daily conversations and in placenames.
A native of Kilmuckridge, now living near Wexford town, Mary taught Irish as a primary school teacher for many years.
She is a frequent visitor to the Ring Gaeltacht in County Waterford.
She is also a regular at meetings of Conradh na Gaeilge, Loch Garman and the local Front Room Poets.
Ré na n-Úll is available from the publishers at coiscéim.ie and from Wexford Book Centre.
