Thousands of people descended on Woodstock Gardens in Inistioge for a children's Fairy Tale Festival.

Set throughout the extensive gardens which date back to the early 1800s, the Beat FM run festival was a big hit with children from across the south east and further afield who got to meet their favourite fairytale characters in the flesh.

Now in its third year, the magical festival included a fairy trail, sing-a-long areas, face painting, archery, bouncy castles, a lizard petting area, lots of outdoor games, storytelling, arts and crafts supported by Creative Ireland and much more. Spread across the gardens, children of all ages were able to make leaps of the imagination into places like Neverland and Oz.

Children got to have their photographs taken with everyone from Captain Hook to Snow White and were able to watch live performances of the some famous scenes from fairytales.

The Walled Garden, the Monkey Puzzle and Noble Fir avenues all naturally lend themselves to a spectacular, enchanting atmosphere and these areas were the scenes of lots of fun, as children followed the 'Yellow Brick Road' and got to meet the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, Belle from Sleeping Beauty, The Beast, Cinderella and even a witch.

While the extensive nature of the grounds meant some parents were worn out by the end of the day, children reported having a fantastic experience.
